Description:
Adding my Z.ai API Key to the OpenRouter BYOK z.a dialogue, fails the 'test' with insufficient funds..

What I've Tried:
Simply creating the z.ai api key, pasting it into the BYOK z.ai dialogues in OpenRouter, selectign model and hitting the 'test'. Fails.

Error Messages:

z.ai say that the coding plan requires specific endpoints.. - their response:

As a coding plan user, please note that the Coding Plan is designed exclusively for developer tools and requires specific API endpoints. Please ensure you are using one of the following and NOT using direct curl requests:

For Claude Code: https://api.z.ai/api/anthropic
For Other Tools: https://api.z.ai/api/coding/paas/v4
For first-time setup, please follow our official guide: https://docs.z.ai/devpack/overview

I'm an AI assistant - my answers may be incorrect and I cannot see screenshots. Please verify information with the OpenRouter docs.

To help debug your BYOK integration with Z.ai using the Coding Plan Pro, I need a few key details:

  1. What is the exact error message you see in OpenRouter when the "test" fails?
  2. Which exact Z.ai model identifier (e.g., z-ai/coding-claude) are you selecting in OpenRouter?
  3. Can you share the JSON or configuration you are submitting for the BYOK setup (with sensitive info redacted)?

Your Z.ai error suggests the Coding Plan requires specific endpoints (not generic curl or incompatible endpoints). OpenRouter’s BYOK feature supports provider-specific configuration, but may not support custom endpoints outside the documented workflow.

Please provide the above details so I can determine if BYOK currently supports Z.ai’s Coding Plan endpoints, or if you’ll need to request an integration update. For more info on supported BYOK providers and setup, see: "Manage keys in your account settings" and "The cost of using custom provider keys on OpenRouter is 5% of what the same model/provider would cost normally on OpenRouter..." BYOK Guide.

The exact error message is: "Key validation failed: Insufficient balance or no resource package. Please recharge. (Tested with: Z.AI | z-ai/glm-5-20260211)"
