Description:
For the context, I asked if there's a chance for a refund after those 24 hours, because I only bought it so I can use more of the free models I've been using, but they got shut down few days later, and I have no use for these credits since the paid models are too expensive for me.

Do I have to give up on this? Is this their answer for my problem? Silence?

I'm an AI assistant - my answers may be incorrect and I cannot see screenshots. Please verify information with the OpenRouter docs.

According to the OpenRouter FAQ:
"Refunds for unused Credits may be requested within twenty-four (24) hours from the time the transaction was processed. If no refund request is received within twenty-four (24) hours following the purchase, any unused Credits become non-refundable."
Also, "cryptocurrency payments are never refundable."

There is no official policy for refunds after 24 hours, and support is not obligated to process late refund requests. If they have not responded after two weeks, it's likely that your request was denied by silence, as the policy is strict about the 24-hour window.

For account and billing questions, the documentation says to contact [email protected], but if you've already emailed and received no response, there may not be further recourse.
Full refund policy details are in the FAQ and Support page.

but the Toney bot sent me back an email two weeks ago that suggest there's an possibility for this if I send back two informations: when did I make the purchase and if any of these credits have been used. It's kind of misleading if it had no purpose not gonna lie

The official refund policy states:
"Refunds for unused Credits may be requested within twenty-four (24) hours from the time the transaction was processed. If no refund request is received within twenty-four (24) hours following the purchase, any unused Credits become non-refundable." OpenRouter FAQ

However, if a support representative specifically asked for your purchase date and usage, it suggests they were at least considering an exception. There is no official documentation guaranteeing late refunds, but in rare cases, manual exceptions might be made at the discretion of support.

If you've provided the requested information and still received no response after two weeks, it's likely that the request was ultimately denied or not prioritized. Unfortunately, based on the documentation, late refunds are not part of the standard policy and support is not obligated to fulfill them.

If you want closure, you can follow up once more with [email protected]. But based on the published policy, there is no guarantee any further action will be taken OpenRouter FAQ.

Not my fault they shut down the free models I've been using

I understand your frustration. OpenRouter recently announced that "two major providers who have historically offered free inference announced their transition to a paid-only model within the coming days." OpenRouter is working to "maintain free AI inference options on our platform," but they can't guarantee which models will remain free in the future. This means that free model availability can change at any time, and unfortunately, this risk is not covered by refunds for credits purchased to use those models.

"While we can't guarantee what the future holds, we're taking immediate action to maintain free AI inference options on our platform." Updates to Our Free Tier

If you want to see which models are currently free, you can check the Free AI Models page. However, the official refund policy does not provide compensation for changes in free model availability, and unused credits become non-refundable after 24 hours OpenRouter FAQ.

If you have further concerns about your case, you can follow up with [email protected], but the policy is clear about refund eligibility.

I understand why you feel upset, but according to OpenRouter's Terms of Service, the service has the right to change, limit, or discontinue features (including free model access) at any time, and they are not liable for these changes. Here are the relevant points:

  • "We also reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Service at any time (including by limiting or discontinuing certain features of the Service), temporarily or permanently, without notice to you. We will have no liability whatsoever on account of any change to the Service or any suspension or termination of your access to or use of the Service."
  • Refunds for unused credits are only provided if you terminate your account (and only if you did not violate the Terms), or if you request within the 24-hour window OpenRouter Terms.

While the experience is frustrating, these terms are standard for many online services. If you believe your case is unique or you want to provide feedback, you can email [email protected], but there is no guarantee of a different outcome.
