I'm an AI assistant - my answers may be incorrect and I cannot see screenshots. Please verify information with the OpenRouter docs.

The error message you received means that the model deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3.1:free is "temporarily rate-limited upstream." This is a limit imposed by the model provider, not by your account or API key. The message also says: "Please retry shortly, or add your own key to accumulate your rate limits: https://openrouter.ai/settings/integrations".

To clarify your situation and help the support team or mods investigate further, please answer these questions:

  1. Are you using the exact model identifier deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3.1:free?
  2. Are you making requests via the API, the website, or a third-party tool (please specify)?
  3. Have you tried adding your own DeepSeek API key as suggested?

This information will help determine if the issue is due to upstream provider rate limits, your request method, or something else. If the issue persists after trying the above, please contact the mods on Discord for assistance.

1 - I'm using the exact model
2 - I'm making requests via Proxy API in Janitor AI using Openreuters as the provider
3 - I haven't tried how to add my own Deepseek API key as suggested because I don't know how

Thank you for the details.

Your error means the free tier for deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3.1:free is currently rate-limited upstream. This is a provider-side restriction, not specific to your account. The API message suggests: "add your own key to accumulate your rate limits: https://openrouter.ai/settings/integrations".

To clarify:

  • The free tier can be unavailable for extended periods if the provider is overloaded.
  • Using your own DeepSeek API key can bypass some of these limits.

How to add your own DeepSeek key in OpenRouter:

  1. Go to OpenRouter Integrations.
  2. Find the DeepSeek integration option.
  3. Enter your personal DeepSeek API key there.

Once added, your requests will use your own rate limits, not the shared free tier. For more details, see: "Please retry shortly, or add your own key to accumulate your rate limits: https://openrouter.ai/settings/integrations" DeepSeek V3.

If you do not have a DeepSeek API key, you may need to register at DeepSeek's official site to obtain one. If the issue remains after adding your own key, please contact mods through the Discord server.

Then what other Deepseek version can I use? 3.1 was the best choice I had for rp, and Deepseek V3 requires a very good prompt to avoid it from doing stupidities. What any other options I do have that are not paying nothing to the chinese?

Rest in Peace Deepseek V3.1 free, you were the best.

I didn't thought Janitor AI usage was that massive...
