I've bought $10 worth of credits anout a day ago, but I didn't get the 1000 messages a day. I figured at first that it would probably apply after the messages refreshed, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything and I am still limited to 50 messages.
#429 error, not getting 1000 messages

If you purchased $10 worth of credits, your daily limit for free model requests should increase to 1000 per day. If you’re still limited to 50 messages, it might be due to the credits not reflecting yet or an issue with your account balance.
You can check your credits and usage by making a GET request to https://openrouter.ai/api/v1/auth/key with your API key to confirm your current limit and usage. Also, verify your credit balance via the credits API.
If your credits still haven't updated after about an hour, please contact the support team or your Discord admin for further assistance.
Are you using free models (with :free suffix) or paid models in your requests?
I am using free models
If you are using free models, the daily message limit is typically 50 messages. Buying $10 credits increases your limit to 1000 messages per day, but this applies only to paid models, not free ones. To use the increased limit, switch to paid models without the :free suffix.
You can browse paid models here: Models with Pricing.

I thought the 1000 messages limit applied to the free models as well, thats what I was told on the JanitorAI reddit
The 1000 messages per day limit applies to paid usage, not free models. Free models remain limited to 50 messages per day regardless of purchased credits. This is why your free model usage is still capped despite buying credits.
If you want the higher limit, you need to use paid models without the :free suffix.
Are you interested in switching to a paid model to access the increased daily message limit?
