Could a dev please confirm whether or not free models hosted by Chutes will have their usage limited on OpenRouter when Chutes goes entirely paid on the 9th?

I'm worried that users who have 1000/day will find themselves capped at 200/day due to the Chutes changes happening.

Is there a back-end agreement between Chutes and OpenRouter? I tech-support users looking for AI models, and I can't in good conscience recommend OpenRouter unless I'm completely sure users will be able to use their full 1000/msgs a day on free models.

I've paid 10.00 for OpenRouter.
I try to use something like deepseek/deepseek-r1-0528:free.
It no longer works, because Chutes requires a 5.00 USD/tao deposit for free model access.

Hi, @lost monolith! Sorry to bother. Chutes may or may not go paid in about two hours, and I’d love to learn about this before I start recommending people pay for OpenRouter 🙂

That's because the site's free models are from third parties offering it, there have been cases where free models were gone once upstream stopped offering it

It's a little disheartening that this never got a reply given Chutes is now claiming that you guys never had an agreement at all. If I'd known this earlier, I could have warned users in advance. I write guides that are seen and used pretty frequently.

I'd love further clarification on this + the announcement posted by RayonLabs. So there really is no agreement? Not to rag on you guys—I get it—but it might be a good idea to have someone to manage the discord/support threads.
