https://truenas.local works on safari but not on zen. this could be my bad misconfiguring the https cert but it should resolve the same.

system info: macos 26, m2 2022 16gb ram

Does not work is a bit too vague. What error / result do you get?

When you inspect the page (right-click > inspect) and go to the 'network' tab & refresh you can see the result of the request.
The 'console' tab could also contain useful hints.

it just an unknown host error. nothing in console.

You've not got a proxy set up that Zen might be using that's missing a config to exclude .local ?

so if your system has a proxy set up, Zen is using it. Maybe try adding .local to the "no proxy for" field?

copper crater
#

its set up in settings.

can you resolve the address in about:networking#dnslookuptool ?

#

(enter as URL in Zen)

copper crater
#

no its the same as the networkerror before, NS_ERROR_UNKNOWN_HOST

#

i'll try installing vanilla firefox and see if it resolves there

well 2 things I'd try at this point are:

  • try adding .local to the 'no proxy for' field in Zen (or turn off proxy)
  • try a different DNS config (about:preferences#privacy)

ohhh ik what the issue is, zen doesnt have perms to connect to local servers

#

yeah it works now

#

thanks for your help

: )

Is that a Mac setting?

#

sounds like an issue you'd see on a containerised app like a flatpak (linux)

copper crater
#

yeah it’s in settings/privacy/local network

#

it asks you when you install zen and are going through the screen with the big calmer internet text. it also asks for downloads folder perms, etc. most people just spam approve though
