AFAIK only a villager NPC is able to plant tree saplings from the forester. I would love to do this myself to have my own grown forest.
Maybe should require Farming 5 or 6.

I believe this is due to a system that they plant trees on already selected nodes (spots) for where the chopped trees are, so you can only plant them in that nodes as the system is based around it. So until that changes you would only be able to plant on pre determined spots. But I agree I would like to be able to plant myself even if it with those spots, and then a system revamp of planting anywhere for the player (not the npc unless there tools to say where to plant etc.)
