#Steamdeck Crashes

I've been playing on my steamdeck on the 'medium' quality settings, and all was good until the most recent major update.

Now my game will crash about every 15-20 minutes. It especially happens when I am fast travelling, or if I'm am running to a part of the map where the game needs to load terrain/NPCs. Sometimes it seems to happen for no reason at all.

I have tried running the game on the 'low' quality settings, as well as switching do different Proton versions (steamdeck thing), but with no luck.

A couple of days ago, the game wouldnt even load my save. It would get to the main menu, then crash during the loading screen. I restarted my steamdeck, and that helped, but it's still crashing intermittently.

Apologies if this isn't too detailed, I'm not the most tech savvy.

Wondering if anyone else is playing in Steamdeck and has experienced similar issues?

I just wanna kill some bandits.

Hey, steamdeck is not officially supported so you should expect many bugs and crashes.
We want to have full support in the future but for now updating and polishing the gameplay is our main priority

@grizzled ravine could you upload logs? would be nice to check them to see if there's some specific reason for crashes

#

I'm not familiar with steamdeck, so can't really tell where they are, should be similar to other games I guess, on windows it's in appdata

If you experience a crash, please create a thread in #1147608045367590984 and post your entire 'Saved' folder zipped:

Where do I find my 'Saved' folder?

Your 'Saved' folder is located here:
%localappdata%\bellwright\

How do I get to my 'Saved' folder?

  1. Open 'Run' through the Windows Start Menu and paste the above link
  2. Press 'WIN + R' on your keyboard and paste the above link
  3. Open 'File Explorer' and paste the above link into the address bar

Zipping the folder

  1. Right click on the folder named 'Saved'
  2. Select 'Send To' -> 'Compressed (zipped) folder'
This will generate a zip file you can then upload

Uploading the zip file

  1. Drag and drop your zip file into Discord
    OR
  2. Use Discord's 'Upload a File' to upload the zip file

You can try to check this path

/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/APP_ID/pfx/drive_c/

APP_ID you can check in properties on steam (check screenshot)

I'm a big big dumby that doesn't upload crash logs. Then I message about problems uploading it, without reading the compressing instructions.... sorry friends!

Sorry for the hassel, but @haughty remnant @sly cipher and @abstract fiber here is the log:

hmm, this is not the game's log

#

I think we'll need to to some investigation and find the location for logs on steam deck

#

I would expect it to be named Bellwright.log

Oh man, I'm really showing my ignorance. I will keep digging.

Tried to reinstall, install locally, and on my SD card, now I'm trying a factory reset of the deck itself.

Will provide an update when I can
