Suggestion: armor recalc? it seems useless

so i'm probably going to get destroyed for this but for me the game has been unplayable for a bit. i have been trying to go up against a reclamation party with myself and 10 villages all armored to the teeth with the best i have availble after just liberating the first town. i have "cheated" and boosted ranged and melee damage up to 400%. the 8 member reclamation part comes in and completely decimates me and my party 1-shotting me with archers from far away and there is nothing i can do about it.

to me, it really doesn't seem to make any difference if i'm fighting naked or if i am completely geared with the best gear i have available to me.

it might be a decent idea to look again at how the armor actually affects incoming damage?

Can you post screenshots of what gear your fighting party has?

And what's their average skill level?

I will wager that they are basic followers equipped with cutting/slashing weapons which are completely ineffective against brigand armor...

sorry about that!!!! i got angry, deleted the game and quit for a few days. trying to give it another go i started a new game and am having similar issues:

hey all --- trying to get back into this but having a LOT of trouble --- i have 2 settlers + myself. we have 23 armor on, 5 pants, 3 hat --- melee and i'm 3/10 archery. i have researched all i can and now need straps. i'm trying to attach a green level bandit camp for straps but before my 2 settlers can even get 1 hit in, they are 1-shot by 1 of the 2 archers. before i can aim and even loose an arrow, I am 1-shot by an archer. the game is pretty much unplayable for me at this point as i have no other way it seems to get straps. i even tried pushing the damage up to 400% .... but it doesn't matter because before i can even try and kill anyone, i'm down. what am i doing wrong?

You're basically using crap armor and weapons. Why do you think you're getting one shot? Are you giving yourself and your villages good food that ups your health and stamina? After these past few monthly updates, this game is massively better in terms of combat. It's crucial to eat the right food and have good armor. I recommend just doing quests, get on good terms, hire good villagers instead of crap ones. Take it slow, it's not a rush. I'm 50 hours into the game and I don't even have a tier 3 town hall yet, or a blacksmith or many other things.

Keep in mind that setting damage to 400% affects both dealt and received damage.
I'd suggest to try hunting bandit patrols instead of camps. Patrols are usually weaker than camps, especially the ones in the first area where you can meet them. Topless bandits is your best choice for easy renown/straps

I think the damage setting should be reconsidered. As a player, I definitely thought this setting was affecting outgoing player damage only. I think it would make sense to allow for players to adjust damage dealt and damage received separately.

Defo, on board with that, make the game as customisable as you possibly can with obs a few Gameplay presets for the people who just want to get stuck in

How did you manage to capture a settlement with 10 ? I needed about 30 people. Then I barely fought off the detachment, which immediately moved to recapture the settlement.

But the game really doesn't give you any choice in the first half of the game other than the bow. there is nothing to catch in close combat. And melee combat controls are terrible.
