Overall: Game is nice. It needs some AI improvements, some balance etc

But one by one.

  1. I dont care, If bandits etc straight run into your face. I dont mind cows, chicken etc running arround far away (because of bandit/wolf attacks on the village)
But the village aspect I compare with RimWorld and there Bellwright need some more love.
Sometimes NPCs just dont do anything. They drop their tools on the floor, they waste peat, wood and meat, they get stuck on traps and stuff etc
Ideas to fix some of the stuff:
Make smoking, grilling and smelting etc a "fulltime job" and sligthly faster. And reduce the max amount of wood/peat etc to 2 or even 1.
Yes, it costs you one villager per task, but I would take that 100 times instead them throwing 4 wood into the fire to cook 1 meat. And they wouldnt burn/"forget about" about during the night or other jobs. Its super frustrating, when you hunt and sometimes 80% ending up as fertilizer or in the outhouse.
And please increase the "life span" of food a bit. It would be nice, when it rots slower and gives a little bit more food/buff time. Both +20% time would be amazing already.

  2. Sliders and options are always nice
Sliders and options make any game better. No matter the game or the genre. In Bellwright, it would be nice to have some sliders like:

  • Day lenght and how many days per "year" (and how many days per winter, to make the game a bit harder for those who want?)
  • Reputation gain
  • Resources per yield
  • Renown
  • Boob slider
  • Limited or infinite resources
  • Dmg/HP of enemies (nothing too crazy, maybe max -25% and up to +50%)
  1. "The Padstow Syndrome"
The progress from start to the first belltower in the first village feels smooth.
Then comes Padstow. I dont know If we had bugs in the 2 coop savegames, but we were at 300~ of 1.200 reputation and no more quests in Padstow. Not even one. For 50+ days. It cant be right, that you need 30 old coins or 240 wolf fangs.

  1. Reputation in general
It would nice, If you would get atleast 50 reputation for every bandit camp your clear for the village in that area. And let us hand in stags or boar-things too, not only wolf fangs.

  2. Buildings for the neutral villagers
Its nice that we can build them houses, lanterns and stuff. Its just a tiny aspect in the game, but it feels nice. But it would be nice, If we could repair the villages too. Most of them (or all?) have destroyed buildings or fences. If we could repair them, the villages would look much better.
And maybe - in late game? - building walls, towers and stuff for them would be amazing!
When we are going from rebel to king/queen, it would be 10/10, If we could make the villages into small cities. With walls, stone houses etc and that makes them your "vasall". Like they give you a bit of gold, renown and maybe some resources per day and you defend them in return.

  3. A neutral village overlay
Its super tedious, to run from villager to villager and check their stats and perks. A list of possible villagers would be amazing. So you can easier figure out, who you want. Or If there are any villagers in that village at all. And the ones we 200% dont want, should be markable as "Please, no." And they change after 1 year?

  4. Cooking (at the campfire and smoking thing etc) and farming need more options
To balance the production, it would be nice set up max amount of tasks.
I dont need 20 mil flax, wheat or hemp and I dont want to change the farms by hand every year. Same for meat/fish etc at the cooking stations

  5. NPC houses storage "needs" a purpose
Would be nice, If the NPCs would have a use for their own, little storage. Like food in it and they eat there every morning. And they could store there their own weapons/armor, toold whatever.
So when its a normal "workday", they wear linen cloth, comfy boots and stuff, to not reduce their speed and when they are called to arms, they change it. And put their inv in the chest too.

  1. Oh, right. More or less posted in 2. -> Option for infinite/respawning resources. Like all of them. Stone, ore etc. If people dont want or like to be forced to look for more and more stuff, give the option at least.

  2. Combat
Im fine with the combat. I would say its a solid 6,5/10
The game could need some more options. More early game bows and arrows (stone arrows, copper arrows?)
Maybe make shields "better"? Yes, you can block any attack from the front instead of quicktime event the correct direction with 1h or 2h, but shields feel kinda useless for players, because sometimes they break after a few seconds and they take your bow slot
Maybe the options for dualwield daggers, swords, axes and other 1h weapons? With some downsides of course. Like +20% more dmg, but parried/blocked attacks still make a bit dmg?

Sneaking and stealth take outs would be nice too

Option to hide helmets for the player

  1. NPCs and where they go. And where not.
I like, that NPCs dont care about the distance, when you are setting up a fast travel and while you cant find stones, some already travel the whole way down to your position.. but it would be nice to have a option there. Like "Always to straight to your location" and "Be careful, only take the roads and try to dodge enemy patrols". It would feel more realistic and look nice, when you are back from a quest or something and some NPCs carry stuff from A to B and not running through the forest and maybe die to wolfs or stuff.

On the other hand. When a woodcutter in our game is 100 m away from the main village.. they dont take the loot out of the woodcutter chest. Its always full with 50 wood and 10 logs.
It feels like the NPC dont want/like to empty stuff, when its "too far" away, but they walk 100 kms, to deliver 2 stones for a fast travel

  1. Loot in the water. Especially feathers.. this god damn feathers..
Its already annoying enough, that we have to shoot birds out of the air to get feathers.. its even worse, when the crow bounce on the ground and sometimes yeet itself in a river.
Would be nice, If loot in the water would automatically spawn on one of the river sides. I dont care which one and maybe that spot isnt able to reach, but atleast there is a high chance you can still loot it.

  2. My village, best village
Some nice suggestions to make the people happy that like cool/pretty villages etc.
    Please gib players lanterns too!
Being able to get rid of bushes, grass etc. Maybe dirt, gravel, stone or later brick places and paths in your village
Randomized clutter for the storages and NPCs houses atleast. I L. O. V. E. the small details at every building, but it feels weird when you have multiple houses of the same kind in your village and they all look 100% the same
And maybe give the village hall more purpose. A small storage, give NPCs a space for some entertainment. Like instead them going to bed, they could fo to village hall and later a tavern etc for 2 hours and doing some gossip things and just chill. So its like sleeping, but adds some flavour to it
