#gearing villagers up one by one

Hello,

The problem I'm having is I find it a bit tedious to gear each individual villager up one at a time. It isn't a big deal at 1-2, but I'm up to 6 and when I have to go through each to make sure they're up to the "correct" tier of armor/weapon for each individual, including looking at their skills it can be a bit daunting and take some time.

It's just a bit of an inconvenience.

A possible solution would be a "message board" or bulletin board you put up as an item in your own area. This could have sets, or individual orders for each type of combatant and something you could make. So you make a set for archer, one handed, worker, etc. Then the villagers get the gear on that set when it's available automatically.

They should grab the best gear for combat. Not yet sure if archers grab bows/arrows yet though

The only time in the tutorials that commanding villagers to do things is when it says ‘contextual orders with [E] to attack, harvest and move.’

Needs to be a little more explicit imo

You still have to check them though, if they have a weapon that is one swing away from breaking they won't switch it out. Also have had people with 3 strength grab a simple axe instead of the warhammer or mace I have there for them. When there are several followers clicking on the food storage about halfway through they stop grabbing food and several will still only have one food slot full. If you do call to arms you can't command them and so also have to find them and gear them or make them companions first to command them for food and weapons before switching them back to guard

Regarding gearing up villagers, a tip i learned through trial and error is to establish a "army camp" for lack of a better term as a seperate outpost from your base just outside of it, often in the direction your raids will be coming from. In this "army camp" place a food cellar (if you've unlocked it)/stockpile with the 3 types of food you want them to eat. Have weapon racks that specifically hold the weapons you want them to use. Have a chest/stockpile with shields. This way the villagers wont interact with the army camp and place things that you dont want, or take things that you do.

Making the system similar to rimworld would fix, and simplify all of this.

Gear% so they don't grab breaking items.
Gear sets so archer->gets bow, two hander-> gets two hander, etc
