With Gemini being integrated into messages, it makes it really imperative that I can send messages to it in the same way that I would with other chats, but because it's not actually listed in my contacts, Google Assistant gets confused.

the "Hey google" thing that is in your 2nd screenshot
if you set it up with gemini as your assistant instead of the old one it just sends whatever you said to the gemini app

#

this is from my phone and after it reads what i say it gives me voice output and i can navigate to the app from there too

So it's a whole other app?

yeahhh kinda, gemini mobile app but then it integrates with your assistant.

i tried to post a link to the support page that shows how to set it up but it wont let me send it.

I have to say that is kinda a crappy work-around. If Gemini is already in my contacts the it should be pretty simple to give it an ID that assistant could recognize.

It works, but like I said I'm not happy about having to switch apps. Especially when it seems like it could have been resolved with maybe five lines of code.

Yeah im not sure what the disconnect is, and why they dont have something where you enable it and then you update your phone and it will do the downloading and integration automatically.

but since this stuff is brand new i think they are just seeing what people are doing with it and finding out some wants

And to find out that it's a wraparound that only works when you're outside of the app. that's just outlandishly lazy coding LOL. Don't get me wrong. I'm in favor of if it works. It works but there are some things that just should have been thought through by the project manager

This doesn't even really seem to be a step-by-step integration problem. It seems like they're just throwing llms at things with no cross communications
