(VENTING-TW for su!c!dal thoughts) so as a lot of you may know social media was recently banned for people under 16 in australia (discord was not included in the ban btw). and obviously the ban didn’t work and ppl under 16 are still using social media platforms (myself included). but recently i’ve been questioning whether the ban was a good thing or not because of the amount of genuine hate towards lgbtq i’ve been seeing. like tell me why i’ve been seeing ppl say “its ok to be homophobic!” or “why are gay/trans ppl normalised” and honestly it’s taken a toll on my mental health. obviously i’ve seen homophobia before but for some reason i’ve been seeing a lot more of it. seeing this rise of homophobia on my screen is making me have certain thoughts again even tho i literally block all of these people. its the fact that i personally dont rlly know ppl who are like this irl and only see these “opinions” on social media thats starting to make me somewhat agree with the ban. fuck tiktok and fuck twitter/x
#maybe the social media ban was a good thing

I agree with you
I agree the ban was justified I never used social media but I had people who felt really pressured around me due to social media so I’m thankful Australia put it in place and other countries are following suit
breathe and remember a bunch of them are maga bots. There's some kind of sinister botting program going on that's making dead internet theory look truer and truer, stick to stuff where we have an easier time banning bots like that and keeping them out
dead internet theory is definitely real but sadly there are real people among them who genuinely say this stuff, i can only say its because the maga stuff is becoming more normalised cause of america’s and other countries current state
