i really don’t know if i’ll go for my dream career… it would be a dream to become a pilot but it’s really tough and expensive to get there, and i feel like i’m not good enough for it. i’m so close to just abandoning that dream, and i’m already accepting the fact that i probably won’t get it. i’m not even sure if i’ll follow through with my plan B. i think i’ll just be a failure stocking shelves at a grocery store.

If you really want something, you’ll find a way. I know you can. Work hard, keep working hard. Don’t give up.

I know how you feel, too. I have a year until I go to college. I have fears of not getting scholarships and being in debt for the next 30+ years of my life and going nowhere.

Your career, no matter how important to you, doesn’t define your entire life though. You will have so many opportunities come to you if you do well in school even if you’d don’t end up being a pilot. You can have so many more opportunities than some dead-end grocery job.

It’s determined by the legacy you leave behind, and you seem like a very sweet and kind person, and that can be your legacy

Many more things can be part of your legacy on others and the world, but that’s just what I know of you so far :)

thank you for your words. they’re encouraging, but i know they’ll only be for the short term :( in school i only really do the bare minimum, and it’s hard for me to do more cuz of my mindset. as much as i’d like to believe in myself, it’s very much possible that i’m gonna get average final grades at best and i’m not gonna get a lot of job opportunities. i don’t really know what to do with my life now, but maybe not going for such an intense career path will give me an easier life… i don’t know. it’s generally just looking pretty hopeless.

Higher grades are just to get into good colleges or whatever, not to get you into college in general

And good colleges make no difference except to say “oh look at me, I went to an ivy league, ooooooo I’m so much better than you!!!!” Which is cringe

Genuinely though, it’s true that anything above all Ds is gonna get you a degree in whatever you want. Idk the process for becoming a pilot but if it involves college you can get it with just average grades

i think so? i’ve heard the European Union helps with expenses regarding school up until 25 years of age, plus the country im from has free university so yea that’s not too bad lol

Please, while you have time, don’t put behind researching colleges and stuff

Usually kids do it around 11th-12th grade (that’s our highschool grades btw sorry) but even that’s too late

You wanna look for colleges and apply by about 11th

It’s very important to know, and it’ll open your eyes to places and tbings you hadn’t considered, such as the fact that yes, you don’t need amazing grades for uni or college

You can do it online, or if your school has counselors, talk to them!

put the time and effort you would put into school into smth you love, in y12 (last year of highschool) i only did a few hours of homework the entire year, instead I dedicated a portion of that time to studying some of the interesting animal specimens Ive found, including 2 pademelons with a weird mutation causing them to grow a singular extra tooth on their right upper jaw

success in life doesnt come from academic achievement, it comes from doing things you enjoy, you might never achieve all your dreams, like I wanted to be a Paleontologist, but due to a number of factors I cant afford the tuition to do that, but i can still study the science myself, and other things I enjoy

also you have a life thatll probably be like 80 years long

thats plenty of time to save up for flight lessons, get your hours up, and try to get a job as a pilot

trust me you're not gonna get much joy out of doing things you dont like (unless its for the purpose of being able to do smth you do like, for example working a boring job to save money to afford a hobby/education)

try to ignore the pressure shes putting in you, I only started enjoying my life when i ignored the plans my family set out for me, when I stopped paying attention to the classes they picked for me

dont let someone else control your life

in the case of family try to make them think they do to avoid retaliation if they're the type to be like that

but please dont drive yourself into a depressed and/or stressful existence trying to please her

yea i know, i've been letting myself get away with not doing things i dont like, but other traits that came with this mindset are hindering me from getting the job i want, so it's pretty much one or the other 🫠 and as i've stated before, i've already been accepting the fact i probably wont become a pilot so yeah

okay, i know you're right about this, and that i shouldn't stress myself for trying please my mom, but i cant help but feel like i only have two options here, those being going ahead with the pilot training as soon as i can or just abandoning that path TvT

Id recommend that if you're able to get the training soon then do that, but even if you cant dont forget that many people dont find the career they wanna do till their 40s or even later, I have multiple aunties in their 40s to 50s going back to uni to persue a dream of theirs

its never too late, you have many decades left in your life most likely
