I've been trans for a year and a half.
My doctor told me to tell my parents asap and start medical transition asap because I need to be realistic:
I'm not gonna make money for it in highschool with a part time job.
My dad is transphobic, my mother is alcoholic, they are atheist europeans. They suspect it but it might still make dad mad if I make it official.
I'm 17 and will not need their agreement if I wait for a year but as my doctor says:
They will know. Testosterone will change you and they will notice.
I have a presentation pretty much ready, mother is sober because of some undergoing medical treatment, dad is not mad and is away right now, I'm confident thanks to medication and I will be leaving for the day in an hour!
I want to tell mother now and expect her to tell dad. My brother knows and is supportive. But my friend says I shouldn't tell my transphobic dad and move to a different country without finishing highschool.
