You can ask them political questions and try to understand their belief system (any type of bigotry would indicate that its not safe talking to them about this). I think this is good because then u can express your love for human right's without actually risking telling them. This is from a personal experience w a lot of people but take it with a grain of salt. Dont ask them directly about the queer community thats kinda risky ,but ask them any questions that include bigotry of any marginalised group.
