She already left unfortunately, but yeah I've never heard of a country requiring you to do that before, which feels weird.

But fortunately many blue states provide exemptions for gender identity. And my state (Maryland) doesn't require it at all

Yeah I'm in New York so that might be why I didn't know about that, but that doesn't feel surprising if they're the states I'm thinking of. Just noticed this now.
