Hello, my name is Socket. I was medically diagnosed with autism, ADHD, clinical depression, and severe anxiety. I've had this on my mind for a while but I wanted to come out here and say it; self-diagnosing is BAD, a lot of people should know this but THEY DON'T. It's weird and can be triggering for people who have been diagnosed and makes those people seem less 'important' and less impactful. As someone who is MEDICALLY diagnosed when people say shit like "I have autism, I did a bunch of research but I've never been professionally diagnosed." It makes me feel less important or less valued. It's not okay, even if it's for something small like ADHD which is an extremely common disorder. If you believe you have something you should go to a doctor and GET DIAGNOSED. It's genuinely weird and a bit disgusting when people self-diagnose.

Thank you for listening to my rant, if you have anything to say, say it down below or DM me.

I also wanted to add don't go flaunting it around like it's some trophy, it's not. That's just embarrassing and shameful.

I was in a group therapy session with a few people with autism (I have ADHD diagnosed but I did my autism assessment last week, dunno the results yet) and the best thing that I could do was just make sure that if they started talking at a random moment, that i'd show that I'm listening cause... I have a feeling they end up ignored alot.

honestly, i can see where you're coming from, but i somewhat disagree?
not everyone is able to get professionally diagnosed (finances, parents, etc) so i think that as long as they do very thorough research (i'm talking like months and years of it), and make it clear to people they're not professionally diagnosed, then they should still be treated with respect
i'm of course not talking about people who watch one video about autistic traits and then go round claiming to be autistic, i dislike those people
