So, about 3 years ago I came out to my parents, and the night before I had asked “Hey, what’s your thoughts on gay people and the LGBTQ community?” And they said that they didn’t really care about that type of stuff, and to let people love who they want, but when I came out on the way back from school, I got a 45 minute lecture, and the entire time was just my mom yelling at me like I did something wrong.

Fast forward 2 years and my sister realizes she’s gay, and her coming out goes as follows “Hey mom, I have a girlfriend” “Cool” LIKE- WHERE WAS THE ACCEPTANCE WHEN I CAME OUT??? I haven’t really talked about it much but it just confuses me

Is this normal?

oof. Maybe your parents took some time to realize that they have to accept you......

I will also mention that my mom had a Catholic upbringing, but she doesn’t practice anymore and hasn’t for like 20 years

That sucks glaceon_cry They maybe took 2 years to do their research and come to accept gay people in their family, but they didn't show you that. Maybe they have biases about gender that they need to get rid of too. How is it between you now? Do they show you that they accept you? Did you have a conversation with them about it?
