I would say this isn't normal but I'm not a girl yet and I haven't gone through half of what you have but definitely not normal

Would definitely try to talk to a professional though

#

They can definitely help but that doesn't seem avaliable to you

#

At worst try to see if you school has guidance counselors you can talk to

#

Just don't bring up the suicidal thoughts because they have to phone home about that

Satire comedy helps me cope but doubt that works for everyone

#

Just find something (not drugs or alcohol) to distract you from stuff

fast holly
# ionic fossil That's umm, very concerning

It is?
My mom is a good mom and I love her
It’s just annoying how she pretends I’m all okay mentally when I asked her to be put on anti depressants and she blew me off
She knows I’ve had let’s say issues with sh and suicidal thoughts and shit and she knows I’ve tried ||offing myself|| a couple of times.

It was just something I was wondering about so I wrote about it

But not bringing you to a therapist is kinda stupid

I love school therapists because they can't talk about actual issues you have without informing a parent

Hey, first off, thank you for sharing this—it takes real strength to open up, especially about something this heavy. I'll break it down as clearly as possible for you:

1. Is what you're experiencing “normal”?
You’re not alone in feeling this way, but that doesn’t mean it’s something you should just accept. Daily sadness, suicidal thoughts, and intense emotional waves—especially ones you've felt since childhood—aren’t just “teen hormones.” While hormones can amplify emotions, what you're describing goes beyond that and sounds like ongoing, unresolved mental health challenges, possibly linked to trauma.

2. Suicidal thoughts and self-harm urges
These are serious and not normal, no matter your age. They've been with you since you were 8, which strongly suggests long-term depression and trauma responses—not just typical teenage mood swings.

3. Intense emotional waves and hypomania
These could point to a mood disorder, like bipolar or a trauma-related condition like C-PTSD (complex PTSD), which is common in people who experienced long-term abuse or neglect. Only a professional can diagnose you, but your awareness of your emotional patterns is important.

4. Family mental health history & being a drug baby
These absolutely play a role. Genetics and early developmental exposure (like drugs or alcohol in utero) can affect how your brain regulates mood and stress. So can trauma.

What to do:

  • If your mom won’t help, talk to a school counselor, nurse, or trusted adult. They can connect you with resources—even without parental permission in some areas.
  • You can also call or text 988 (Mental Health Crisis Line) any time.
  • Look into free teen therapy services—many areas offer them online or through schools.

You deserve help, not just to survive this but to heal and feel whole.

Thank you seriously

I just hope I don’t have bipolar
I’m pretty sure I don’t have it because my biological mother has that and I don’t think we experience the same thing. I’m going to try and talk with a professional soon as I’m able too. I’m only 17 and I’m not turning 18 for a while and even then I don’t think I’m going to be able too.

I have to use the crisis line however (more specifically in the beginning) I used it so much that they basically cut me off. Even tho I was having a hard time.
Im homeschooled so the counselor thing won’t work
However I could look to free teen therapy services tbh

It kinda just feels like im try to shove myself to keep myself afloat while trying to be there for everyone else and it’s genuinely really hard. It just feels like ive been surviving for YEARS

Im afraid to talk to someone near me about the suicidal thoughts and the sh thing because i dont want to be sent to the psychiatric hospital. The ones where im at genuinely suck. Not to mention when i do go (knowing myself at least) im going to fake the shit I can to get out faster.

However my mom doesn’t seem to consider about it. I don’t tell her half of the shit she thinks I do. Anywayyyy

Thank you for your help seriously it’s been really helpful 🫶🏻

# fast holly Thank you When it comes time to the free therapy services How do I know which o...

To spot legit free therapy services, start by checking if they’re affiliated with reputable organizations like universities, nonprofits, or well-known mental health clinics. Look for credentials—licensed therapists will usually have their qualifications listed. Also, real services won’t ask for upfront fees or pressure you to buy anything. If the site or person is vague about their credentials or asks for money, be cautious.

Another tip: read reviews or testimonials from other users. You can also check if they’re listed on trusted mental health directories like Psychology Today or local government health sites. And if something feels off—like they avoid answering questions or rush you—trust your gut.

Lastly, many legit free services have a clear privacy policy, explaining how your info is protected. Always make sure they respect your confidentiality. If you want, I can help you find some reliable free therapy options!

The Crisis Text Line allows anyone dealing with a mental health crisis to speak with a counselor for free via text. A person simply needs to text 741741 in the United States. Once they do, an automated message will confirm receipt and help a person connect with a trained crisis counselor. This typically takes no more than 5 minutes.

Once a person connects with a counselor, they can continue texting back and forth until they decide the situation is resolved. The goal is to help the person reach a state of calm and safety at the moment.
