I’m trans, and I refuse to keep living as a man. My mental health is suffering for it tremendously, and I fear what I might do if I’m faced with the prospect of boymoding for the rest of my life. My family has been very clear that they would disown any of their kids who became one of those “alphabet people,” so I imagine that my prospects are bleak for keeping in touch with them.
Then again, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make to live. I’m planning on coming out this time next year, but I need to get things in order so that I stay off the streets in the event that I actually get kicked out. I still want a good life, goddamnit, and I intend to make one for myself.
I’m attending college at 20,000 dollars a year, and while that figure might go down in light of my lack of stable income, I will likely still have to pay some amount. I also have to think about rent, food, and HRT. I live in NYC.
Have any of you had to make it on your own out there? Do you have any tips for making money? Insurance tips, non-profits, etc?
