Only one dungeon is available to you at that level, so the random option isn’t up yet. And you cannot queue for that dungeon yet because your ilvl is too low
If you mouse over the lock icon, it should tell you what your ilvl is now and what it needs to be to queue for the dungeon

This happens at the start of WoD, Legion and BFA. You can't queue for that xpack's dungeons because your ilevel is still too low. Just quest around for a bit, you'll make it up in no time.

@pallid fulcrum paladin healers are very effective.
So are the tanks tbh.
Retribution means you'll take longer to queue for dungeons, but it'll be easier on you as a new player.
Rotation is fairly easy, and damage output isn't bad at all.

Actually, the big Gorgrond mobs give you a quest starting item that you hand in at your base in Gorgrond.
But it's not worth it if you're already level 100.
Igneous in particular is tough compared to the others.
He lowers your maximum health with a stacking debuff that will kill you if you don't kill him fast enough, so he's the only one you can't just outlast by self-healing.
Not that such strategies matter to a mage, but just a note.

Hunter is a great starting character, as your pet will keep you out of danger if you just use "Mend Pet" every now and then. The starting spec, Beast Mastery, is also very simple to play.
Paladin is also great as a first character, as they're pretty easy to play and have access to good self-healing in all their specs.
