There is so much to do in the game, don't feel overwhelmed by this. Just do things one at a time and have fun.
If you aren't enjoying a particular class, try a different one. Don't let someone else tell you which class you will like the most, even though shaman is the best.

Ele shaman has a lot of intricate interactions with the spells. Like flame shock making lava burst 100% crit chance and things like that. Shadow priest has some similar things, where a certain spell buffs another. Warlocks don't specifically have that and they have a tanking pet and thus more survivability.
I agree that picking the class you want to play is the most important thing. Don't let the meta for say the highest raiding players or the highest dungeon players influence the class you play.

@north lark As suggested, Hunter is a good "starter class". Fairly easy to understand, and do decent damage. Beast Mastery is a recommended Specialization, which allows you to have your Pet take the most of the damage from the enemies, while you focus on doing damage to the enemies.

@spare oar Not quite accurate anymore. In previous expansions, you'd sometimes get "bits" of an ore, which needed to be combined to the actual ore (10 bits = 1 ore), but that was a long ways back.
You can level to maximum these days without picking any professions, pick up Mining in Boralus/Dazar'alor (and unlock BFA Mining skill), and mine every node in every BFA zone from the get-go. Same goes for Herbalism, and Skinning.
Crafting on the other hand, still requires a certain skill level to craft stuff.

Have you checked at the camp below Acherus whether there is a gryphon or maybe a teleport pad that could get you up there? If everything fails, you might have to write a bug ticket and wait for the reply. Perhaps the only solution is to recreate your character or purchase a level boost.

Does anyone know what the keybind is for the scrollsage type quests where you shoot the birds/crabs? Before I downloaded dominos I had 1/2/3 set for those types of minigames.
