Because of immersion of certain areas and that because of how WoW is coded having dynamic changing effects (Like say you're going from the Firelandsy area in hyjal to the dead cliffs where the Twilight's Hammer is) is harsh on some of the older PCs that keep this game alive
Since rendering in the Firelands soot, heat and such that would be in its Skybox from afar is just a lot of processing
So its easier to make it phase in and out as you swap around the zone.
