Has the meaning of a couple just become less impactful? I was taught a couple to be more like Alleria/Turalyon. Loving, loyal, truthful. etc. Sylvanas doesn't exhibit many of that with her being a banshee. (Dark Mirror reflecting on the past experiences of Nathanos and Sylvanas and showing some hints towards those feelings maybe still being around)

The dark trolls were around the Well of Eternity (Made from Y'shaarj being ripped out of Azeroth) and became the Kaldorei. The kaldorei split up into 2 subraces, the kaldorei-Night elves and the Kaldorei-Highborne. After the well exploded the Night elves exiled the Highborne. The highborne followed Dath'remar Sunstrider to the Eastern Kingdoms and into the Amani lands now known as Eversong. They used magic to make it eternally either summer or spring i can't rememberthat detail. Anyways. They created a new well called the Sunwell to draw power from and created the High elves. Arthas comes by some thousands of years later and then slaughters a good 90% of the population. Of the 10% left, 90% became blood elves and the few high elves left fled to the alliance.
