Ads are always an arms race. People install browser addons to block specific plugins ads rely on, and when the advertisers find out their ads aren't being seen, they switch to different forms of content. So you have to upgrade your addons to block THOSE. Etc. etc.
Like, I fondly remember the days when I didn't have to deal with in-browser ads on my iPad because Apple doesn't support Flash. But then the advertisers started using Java and other platforms to get around that, because they couldn't dare allow iOS users to not be spammed.
