I think OW, being a team game, needs players to communicate verbally... but then again anxiety isn't rational so I can't exactly expect people to overcome that and it's not fair to say "well don't play the game then" it's a frustrating issue to deal with.

There was a lot of pressure in my last guild to join up in the voice chat, which only lead to a lot of cross chatter and the guild leader actually yelling angrily over the thing, with a side order of 'ooo you really ARE a girl ~huehuehue~' and I just can't deal

I get sensory overload really quickly. It's why I can't click on videos in here when they're posted.
What I would like to see is something where when people speak it's relayed to text so I can see it, and if they'd give me some buttons that printed voice lines in the voice chat, I'd use them
They could make a wheel of pre printed things like 'flankers' and stuff
The unfortunate thing is that OW may be a team game but the people I meet in quick play aren't playing with a team spirit. I get abused enough in text, I don't need to be abused over voice too

Nah, it would seem that way I guess, but I don't want to join a guild to disappear into the crowd, either. I mean the guild in gw2 was perfect in a lot of ways for that. It was just active enough, but plenty of people on the roster hadn't been on in months. Everyone who played had kids and RL and knew that issues would crop up. They didn't guilt you for not being able to join, or for joining in but having to AFK or just plain log out, and some of them would be away for months but come back and everyone still knew who they were and were glad to see them
That's what I want, just not run by an abusive tyrant that everyone steps on eggshells around.
