#Upgrade own home to Castle

I would like to upgrade the player's home to a upper chamber, manor house or a little castle. With a population of more than 70 (or more) maybe the own home could be upgraded or a new building could be added. In any case it 's something I think of the middle ages

acoustic trellis

I agree with this, I’d like to see some sort of motte or wooden keep for sure, even if nothing too big or fancy it would be cool to see

Overall more house design options would be nice.

Agreed, more house designs would be appreciated - or availability to connect buildings, for example you can build a free-standing kitchen for your villagers but you can also directly attach one to the house to keep your family members occupied, uhm, I mean, to ensure that fresh and nice food is provided.

# viral plinth Racimir is as normal man, not a lord

yes, but it's totally possible and believeable that a large and ressourceful community could build a larger defensive structure like a motte-and-bailey. It doesn't have to be initiated by a Lord, especially not in a valley that doesn't seem to have many governmental restrictions, like the one we are playing in.
Also, in a sense that is how all people got into a position of power in the early middle ages. Racimir and his family are undoubtedly at the top of the hierarchy in his village. The more people that live in said village, the more powerful this family becomes. Is it so farfetched to imagine, that over the course of a few generations, the King might eventually grant this family a lower-tier title? Not saying that should be implemented. I'm just saying Racimir doesn't need to start with or hold the title of a Lord to not break immersion. I think if the "castle" is a predefined building though, it should be immensely expensive to build, so it really becomes a project for generations and only feasible for very large/prosperous communities.
I think it would be way more fun though, if instead of a predefined "castle" building, we just get more freedom in customizing buildings. Like freebuilding foundations, walls, roofs and stairs. That way people that want to can get creative and design their own mansions or even castles, while others can just keep their houses small and simple.

acoustic trellis
viral plinth
#

that's true, of course, it would be a motivation to play over many generations if you could eventually get titles and an heir could perhaps build a castle in the Xth generation.

The tax on a castle (even like a small keep) should be prohibitively expensive

nimble gyro
#

Well... not to blow your dreams, once upon a time they said they never planned for castles since they want the peasant way of life.
Castles took many people to build especially in the medieval times where they didn't had nowadays vehicles and everything was done by man or horsepower. I took a look at the history of Poland and only 5 known castles were build(from what I seen, I don't know how accurate that is). It wasn't a thing back then.
The landscape didn't work either, since it's hilly/mountain like.

I’d like to see for example a wooden watchtower (basically the same structure as the windmill but without the blades) or something tall looking to make a cool presence

Keeping to the Era correctness(hopefully) the people that were(rare) able to increase their standing to nobility were(usually) only able to own/hold a small "Keep" as a home. I think the idea was to NOT let the 'Peasant Nobility' get to grandiose with bigger homes than the King/Lords of the lands?

#

Oh dear, it is obvious this game is not likely to get a building system like ARK Survival Evolved, or the newer version. That is sad since it would open up a lot of building options, to include a castle the player could design and build. It could also include fortifications. The catch is there would be more talk about raids and war options. Soon after that players would want the option to advance through the timeline common to the history of most nations of people. Wow, so many options, but clearly the desire by the programmers is to keep the game stuck in a specific time period the Polish had. neutral

forest anchor
#

I wouldn't say it's obvious they won't do anything! But there's definitely a large base of people who think there shouldn't be anything to do with martial/combat features in castles/barracks.

What I think would be a great way to grow the game is stone works and the ability to grow a builder into a stone mason. That would be a new skill for at least one NPC builder to start and the other NPC would not be able to learn the skill as fast. Nor would the stone mason be able to build the larger structures like a castle, or fortification in the first generation due to the time it takes to make one stone block. It would be a slow task, but available to start. In this way the son, or daughter of the first NPC builder would learn to do basic stone work after a half a dozen years, but mostly limited to collecting stone blocks, which would take a season to make one. The next generation would be more of a mason (work faster) and able to do more than foundations and start walls for either a castle, or walls to become fortification. The following generation would be able to continue the work and teach other NPCs to be stone masons. Obviously the same scheme to progress towards a level 10 stone mason would take almost a lifetime. The key point being a mason would be limited to how many stone blocks he/she could make per season would be limited by type of tools used and skill level. In short, it would take a significant period of time and generations to make enough blocks to build with. More, or less like was true in history. 🤓

I was just thinking this. Hiw nice would it be for us to live in a little castle. Just the player. With extra storages buildt in it.

forest anchor
#

this needs a bump considering the addition of crests!

flat hatch
#

I think this is necessary because it isn’t very realistic for a settlement to be managed from a house surrounded by walls. In 10th-11th century Poland (where I believe the game is set), the settlement or city would have been managed from a kind of fortified town with walls, like those in Piastovia. In short, castles should be added, and fortifications like those in Piastovia as well, as they would increase the realism of our settlement-town.

#

I believe that devs should have this into account

flat hatch
#

so it could be able to build a castle not a palace a small castle

uncut rivet
#

In my opinion, it makes perfect sense, even if the developers originally decided against it. But the game is called "Medieval Dynasty" and there is actually almost no dynasty gameplay. You can have a maximum of 1 child and then everything repeats itself. But a forest hut develops into a camp, the camp into a farm and this into a village and this in turn into a small town and a big city. There is no need for a lord to justify fortifications and things like stone walls, any kind craftsmen's guilds, a town hall, a keep, watchtowers and other stone or larger buildings that are typical of splendidly developing big cities. And a village has to be managed differently than a big metropolis, of course. That has a lot of potential.

#

And why shouldn't such a powerful and respected head of this city rise to become a kind of lord in such a large community? There is already a king and reputation and quests, so why shouldn't one be able to acquire such a title? Of course, this is something that takes generations, but we then have the dynasty that is founded on one's own family and so it makes sense again. Every lord and other nobleman has ancestors in their lineage who were of rather humble origins.

raw mulch
#

You live in a secluded valley full of farmers far from any hostile forces. Why would you need a castle?

flat hatch
raw mulch
#

Again, this valley is in the middle of nowhere. Rascimir specifically goes there to avoid the war. Why would a farming community noone cares about need a castle?

flat hatch
#

It’s realistic for a village to be managed from a house? Rasimir is escaping the war; he knows he has to protect himself. Also, in his time, nearly all of these communities built castles as they developed. I know what you mean; I’m just saying it’s not realistic, that community ends up advancing, and it needs protection. In the new update (according to the trailer), the combat system will be added, and this idea makes even more sense.

Look, Feudalism was the main system, and in case you didn’t know, they divided the territory into two parts: the fief and the castle. The fief was where the peasants worked, and the castle was where the landowner resided. In this game, we start with a small settlement, but over time, that relationship between us and our settlements will be called feudalism. It is unlikely that there were no wars in ancient Poland, so settlements were divided into two parts. The heart of the city was made up of a fortified town (sometimes castles) where the main organizations and institutions that managed the city were located.

#

There would absolutely have to be a castle.

#

This really is a fact

# flat hatch Look, Feudalism was the main system, and in case you didn’t know, they divided t...

you're learning of the divide in the MD discord, those who want a "Stardew valley with graphics" and those who want a "colony sim", they won't budge or acknowledge sound arguments either. I agree with you on your premise whole heartily if we also consider the game is called Medieval DYNASTY as in Rascimir starts in a peaceful, relatively wild valley, and builds a city by most peoples end game. The game isn't called "Peaceful Valley", It's "Medieval Dynasty", where the devs are adding swords, crests, and armor by the looks. The pace of expansion by Rascimir and his lineage may start quaint but by 2nd or 3rd generation the Valley will have a massive city and probable target.

#

in the end I would just keep up with adding to the suggestion as the Devs seem to agree with our Perspective

raw mulch
#

The Valley doesn't have any big towns, it's all farmland, mining and hunting. Such areas rarely had need for a big, expensive castle. Remember that the game is set early medieval period, 900s-1000s. Castles were pure defensive structures then, not big status symbols

#

But thank you for proving that you lied when you said you respect my opinion and there's no point in arguing

Historically it wouldn't have been money. Farmers paid taxes in crops

Everything the villagers make, they bring into our storage.

forest anchor

This is actually how many feudal systems worked.

#

I also am going off the idea of you having a castle eventually which itself gives a few assumptions.

forest anchor
#

I'm also assuming this is late game, where if we wanted to follow most folks progress it's highly likely your villagers [ ignoring they are Npc's] would generate a small income as you do even before your first villager.

#

[The guys working in my smithies have got to have work contracted to them occasionally]

In the end I'm just trying to flesh out OP's idea and you have to imagine what could be when it's not what is in the game!

So, they would use part of the 10 hours they work solely for us for their own profit? Or work more then 10 hours a day to generate some private income which they could then also give to us? Hmm, I bet you could find historical periods where people were basically slaves, but I also bet that this varied over time and over places.

In the end I think this is one of these suggestions where it is less about “this isn’t historically correct”, but about people’s roleplay preferences. People like the idea of roleplaying a person of power, someone who the villagers must pay respect to, also in the form of money. I won’t begrudge other people their roleplay preferences, but I, personally dislike the idea of acting superior to other people, I like that we are a farmer/hunter/builder and not nobility. I would rather roleplay being a protector and spokesperson for my people, so this is a 👎 from me.

Also, lategame, you really don’t need the additional coin.

A proper stone castle would be too much for the game, an Manor house, or fortified Manor, or a small wooden keep, or even an motte and bailey would be cool, but.....ofc not realistic for the location we play 🤷‍♂️

forest anchor

I mean I hope not atleast

That'd be really out of place so far

Something like this makes sense but I'd say more squat, with a walkable palisade wall like pistovia

Nebakov Castle, thing is, its dated 1403

#

We are situated like 400 years before the castle was built 😂 , but would be cool, even being a pre-made building, like the other buildings are. Ofc, would be a very late game feature for the game, and ppl would have the ability/possibility to choose between build it or not, being some kind of "noble" or stay as "peasants"

#

That could be implemented in form of DLC, maybe

forest anchor
#

Not really wooden forts and defensive "keeps" were around as early as the 9th century 😂

#

No need for a dlc it's perfectly inline.

#

Pistova shows almost perfectly the possibilities

#

Not at all out of place

near oak
#

I meant DLC bcuz i see alot of ppl here have a strong desire to "don't make the game violent"....and that's not what I'm suggesting, its just a new building 🤷‍♂️

forest anchor
#

Those people seem to have the wrong game in mind as the devs have shown already, but that's what I like about MD you can choose what to do and build and what not to.

Crests and swords as shown in the update trailer show that as well as a combat update.

Since we have an fortified Village in oxbow, why we cant have an fortified Manor on it 🤷‍♂️

forest anchor

Yeah I think most people are getting stuck on what they envision castles as being [ big stone fortress] vs what they were most of the time [pictures above].

#

Castle just meant fortified position Essential usually 2 layered with a keep in there.

near oak
#

would be cool to have an massive building like skalitz or talmberg castle? for sure would be!, but i know that they were rly for the nobles

#

and we have some "engine/code limitations"

forest anchor
#

Yeah that seems to be a big hiccup for alot of people as well.

#

By late game, from almost all pictures I can see, most people have built a city, and their settlement size is literally "city".

near oak
#

its quite big for a rumble village, i have even an "fortified manor" for myself, and a small barracks, armory, training ground, but dont let ppl know, that i made all from myself xD

forest anchor
#

This isn't really on topic but whether it's the valley or oxbow when the Castellon gives you building rights to start a settlement by medevil terms he's giving you low level nobility. Now most people seem to think nobility always started off " rich and gawdy" but most of the time it wasn't like that it was as you are in the valley or the oxbow.[ given rights of ownership of a settlement]

#

Land ownership was a massive social badge of honor back then

#

People have it in their head we're just peasants and while I'd say that's true as soon as you get to farm level even that's when most would be considered low level nobility.

#

Again not on topic but if we really take time to consider

near oak
#

indeed

forest anchor
#

If you look at kcd talmberg, hilarious enough most people have more structures then a wealthy lord does.

#

And subjects if you count, [ I have because MD is a battleground of ideas lol] , you have more subjects easily late game.

#

Again if your player owns their land and their work he's literally by definition their " lord" .

#

Anyhow yeah, a combined building with jobslots sounds cool af.

onyx moth

Perhaps building more defensive buildings like towers, lookouts, moats, etc before a castle like a progression would suit the game more. Also, depending on why type of kind you have. My current game's king is "Mad" crazy? so yeah, I might like to protect myself and my town from the Mad King!

#

Further to what @forest anchor said, many people lived on the lands of their lord's. The lord owned an estate of land and it never even became a city, it was just an estate of land where the lord allowed villagers to live and work on their land. Whether they worked directly for the lord or not, they paid taxes, or a tithe to the lord and/or their estate.

there was alot of scroll throu .. but i saw something about towers in here what - i think a watch tower would be nice that could possibly mark " bandits" cause im sure there was always someone assigned to guard duty to keep people safe at night

oblique rover
#

At the very least give us module stairs, walls that will stack up and side by side and floor parts and we could likely build our own castle. Just add the stackable snapable components. Some of the fences and walks ways get us close but they need to be able to snap together and also I would extend the height the bridges/walkway parts we have could be built. If you could build them right along a wall or snap to a wall you could have a wall around your village.

It's a good idea but building a castle when there's no threat around seems unnecessary for now. Hopefully this will add more bandits, raids and give us a reason to build castles.

I agree, I feel like the player should get something special.

  1. Like a longhouse design like in the heartfire dlc of skyrim, with some stairs, some extra rooms to decorate, like a kitchen, bedrooms, a living room with a fire place to sit at, a dining table. I really like that layout and it was nice to build those.

  2. Or castle.

  3. Definitley castle walls would be nice, and to post guards. To make it look like a realistic city.

  4. Having a stuart who can pay your taxes, and who make aragements for you provided you have the coins.

  5. As for getting these, for example for saving the king from other trying to assasinate him or for bringing peace to the oxbow, as reward.

The game is great itself, and I've spend 712 hours in this gameso far, I do see so much more potential for this game.
