Add craftable soap, which if used while bathing, makes you stay clean longer.

To add a little onto this, one of the many Skyrim Mods I use (probably Hunterborn) adds soap, which can be crafted with Animal Fat (harvested from game) and a variety of flowers; and gives a small, mostly cosmetic buff depending on the flower used. Animal Fat could also be used in cooking.

Something along those lines would be pretty neat.

Animal Fat and Ashes were what I was thinking; Ashes could be a byproduct of smelting at the Smithy workstation, the way Straw is when threshing, or could be crafted using Firewood at a campfire. Animal Fat could indeed be used in cooking, and also to make tallow to then make candles, thus enabling more lighting options (maybe even a candle you can place and carry as well as, like, wall candles?).

I like the idea of the cosmetic buffs, tho.

#

Ashes could also be used to make or enhance Fertilizer (maybe combine it with regular Fertilizer to create a better version that increases crop yield), and I think it has uses in pottery.

What I meant by "cosmetic" is that the buff was more for flavor than use, IIRC it was something like 1% better prices of 2% bonus to speechcraft, and so on. I could be wrong.

#

But I like everything you've mentioned, always in pro of having more stuff to make.

I understood what you meant, I just meandered to the side, as I tend to. Sorry.

As an artisan Soapmaker I definitely endorse this idea! Could even add a few different types like milk soaps etc. definitely a luxury item back in those times but as an old craft it would definitely be cool

I believe that's what Culwick meant, so yeah, that's what I was talking about liking the idea of.

I really like that idea too. Even if it’s just something small like 2%

it would be really cool if harvesting the pigs gave you fat to make the soap... would give a dual purpose for them, since pigs and manure production is a little OP tbh

(Sorry, ignore this; replied to the wrong thread.)

Honestly, most of my initial idea was to ameliorate the fact that becoming dirty is the only status effect which accrues over time that you can't slow down or mitigate, and which is the least convenient to remove. And it also may poison you if you eat anything, after a long day of logging in the middle of the southern forest, nowhere near a body of water, with no planks in your inventory to create a washtub.
