haha I've been looking for this since the new channel opened! 
I’ve been waiting for it too lol. I’ve yet to do any research into if they’re in the region during the time MD is set.
A quick lookabout (very quick, subject to more diving) says the European quail is native to Europe. I can't find any information about when or how quail were introduced to Poland, which makes sense given that they have a huge geographical range, but I did find one mention on Wikipedia about quail being part of Polish cuisine. It doesn't, however, specify a time period for when it became so, or say if it still is.

I wish it were easier to find anything that isn't current information on quail in Europe, though admittedly I didn't look for very long.
Both Old World and New World quail include edible species. The common quail used to be much favoured in French cooking, but quail for the table are now more likely to be domesticated Japanese quail.
