#Why can I sometimes just not find voices back that I used to search up and find? I've been looking
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Short answer: “Arnold” is now a Legacy default voice. Legacy voices are hidden by default, will be removed on February 28, 2026, and “Arnold” is being replaced by “Adam.” Until removal, users who previously used a Legacy voice can still surface it. After removal, its voice_id will automatically route to the replacement. (help.elevenlabs.io)
How to get “Arnold” back (today is Feb 26, 2026):
- App: Voices > Default Voices, search “Arnold,” then enable “Show legacy voices.” Also check Recently Used. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- Copy its voice_id: My Voices > … > Copy voice ID. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- API: List Voices with the show_legacy flag to retrieve Legacy voices. (help.elevenlabs.io)
Why voices you used to find can disappear from search:
- Community voices in the Voice Library can be unshared by their owners (sometimes with a notice period); once removed, they no longer appear or be saveable again. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- Only Professional Voice Clones are shareable to the public library; Instant Voice Clones and Voice Design voices never appear in library search. (help.elevenlabs.io)
If “Arnold” is already gone for you, use its replacement “Adam,” or find a close match by uploading a sample to the Voice Library’s “search by audio” tool. (help.elevenlabs.io)

But why are they removing Arnold? A lot of people still use him
Short answer: Arnold was reclassified as a Legacy voice because it no longer meets the current quality standard for our Default voice lineup. It’s scheduled for deprecation and removal on February 28, 2026, and is being replaced by the Default voice “Adam.” (help.elevenlabs.io)
Details:
- Deprecation rationale: Legacy voices are former Default voices that don’t meet current quality standards; they’re being replaced with higher‑quality Default voices available long‑term. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- Replacement and compatibility: Arnold → Adam. Existing API voice IDs auto‑route to the replacement, though output may sound different. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- Access until removal: If you previously used Arnold, you can still use it until February 28, 2026; to find it in the UI, search its name and enable “Show legacy voices,” or list voices via API with the show_legacy flag. (help.elevenlabs.io)

Still, a lot of big content creators used him and found him a high-quality voice. Can't the voice just be updated to meet the quality standards instead of it getting replaced by a completely different already existent voice?
Short answer: No—per ElevenLabs policy, legacy Default voices that no longer meet the current quality bar are deprecated and replaced with new curated Default voices rather than being “updated.” Arnold is designated a Legacy voice and is mapped to Adam. Existing calls keep working because legacy voice IDs auto‑route to the replacement, but the output may sound different. (help.elevenlabs.io)
Why this happens
- Default voices are a curated set, quality‑checked and aligned to our current models; voices that fall below this standard are retired and replaced with higher‑quality Defaults that are intended to remain available long‑term. The docs do not provide a pathway to “upgrade” an individual legacy Default voice in place. (elevenlabs.io)
What you can do now
- Until February 28, 2026, users who previously used Arnold can still access it by searching its name and enabling “Show legacy voices” in Voices > Default Voices (or via the List Voices API with show_legacy). After that date, Arnold will be removed and its ID will continue routing to Adam. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- If you need a closer match, try Voice Design, voice remixing, or cloning (Instant or Professional) to recreate Arnold’s style. (help.elevenlabs.io)

Ok and what about these big content creators that use Arnold then, huh?
Short answer: there aren’t special exceptions for “big creators.”
- Arnold is classed as a Legacy voice and will be removed from all products on February 28, 2026. It’s being replaced by the Default voice “Adam.” This change applies platform‑wide. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- For API users, existing Legacy voice IDs (including Arnold’s) automatically route to the replacement voice ID (Adam). Output may sound different. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- Until February 28, 2026, only users who previously used Arnold can still access it; to find it in the UI, search by name and enable “Show legacy voices” under Voices > Default Voices. After that date, it will no longer be available. (help.elevenlabs.io)
- ElevenLabs recommends transitioning to the new Default voices or creating a suitable alternative using Voice Design, Voice remixing, or Voice Cloning, or selecting a Professional Voice Clone from the Voice Library. (help.elevenlabs.io)

Oh yeah? Well why did February 28, 2026 pass a week ago and I still find creators using the Arnold voice?
Short answer: they aren’t actually using Arnold anymore.
Per ElevenLabs’ deprecation policy, Arnold was a Legacy Default voice scheduled for removal on February 28, 2026. After that date, any request using a Legacy voice ID (including Arnold) is automatically routed to its replacement Default voice. Arnold’s mapped replacement is Adam. So if someone says they’re “using Arnold” post–February 28, 2026, the audio is being generated by Adam via automatic routing, even if the legacy name still appears in their workflow or code.
