I did some basic testing to get CPU usage. 1st screenshot is baseline with the reader app closed. 2nd screenshot I had the app open while playing an epub. 3rd screenshot is while I had the reader paused and a different app open, then finally the 4th screenshot is from when I closed the reader.

Hey @lament egret there's a new release being rolled out now v1.4.43 that has a number of battery optimizations in it. For this round i was more focused on battery optimization during offline playback, but there are some improvements during streaming playback as well. Please let me know if it improves.
