#Brand New Server is laggy?

Just started a new server with 3 of my friends. Literally just loaded in. The game is playable but the pals are insanely laggy. We're paying for a 10 slot server and getting this performance is ridiculous. I've used GPortal in the past for other games and it's been fine. But I will be looking for a new server if this is what's expected. Any tips or help to make this experience better?
