I do apologize in advance, slightly new to all this.

A few friends and myself are wanting to play a custom pack that we put together. Which seems the mods we want are only available in the neoforge version.

How do I create a new custom server if the pack is not listed among the modpacks to choose from?
Any detailed help for a newb would greatly be appreciated 😄

what I've tried so far:

Made a new pack for the minecraft version and neoforge version aswell, added 1 mod to it like Applied Energistics 2.
Then made a completely new server on gportal. changed it to the minecraft version 1.21.1 and then selected neoforge 21.1.170
started the server it booted up, i was able to hop on and move around just fine.

Then did what was mentioned in the videos and took all the mods from the modpack we want which is same version of minecraft and neoforge and threw it over to the server mods folder.
Clicked start server "crash" or doesn't even start.

After many other attempts I can not get this to work it seems and im at a standstill

Only things i can think off that could be wrong. is there any client side only mods in the modpack. are there any outdated mods. or mods that conflict with each other.

@fair gyro Best way i normaly go with. is find a modpack that is on the list. for the loader and gameversion you want. that also have a good amount of the mods you want. then go in via ftp. and remove mods you do not like. and add mods you like. one by one. As that is more easy to se if a that mod just added. broke the server. insted of adding 50 mods at a time. Many of the great modpacks. takes months if not a years to make. And sins minecraft have so many difrent loaders. and versions. + mod programmers. there are simply just mods you cant put together.

yeah that's fair, im still currently looking into it. I might just have to do what you said but now that you mention it I do think there is a few client side mods in there.

Ill have to double check

Also some mods do have some dependensys . where you need to also have those installed.

So yee there is alot that can go wrong. hehe. i gave up on making my own modpack a year ago. as it simply is way more coding and confic changing that i have no ideer about doing. i can brute force things to work. by doing the Add or remove one more or make one change. then test if run. before adding the next. But also add mod as spark. or crash assistant. . Spark can help you look at what the server is doing. when you experience lag. suchs as tell what entities are around in what chunks. and how many resources a single mod uses. A nice thing to have. at your fingertip. as that can help solve some lag or crash problems.

but both things can also crash the server if not installed correctly.
