Me and my friends are currently playing a game and were looking to move it over to a dedicated server. Are we able to take our current save and load it onto the server if we buy one? Or will we need to start fresh?

The host will need to make a new character, the rest can be moved over. I wouldn't consider this atm though because Gportal servers have had issues since yesterday. (Other providers as well, mostly are all sold out).
