Given the Block Authority role as the judiciary arm of the Voi governance model, I typically do not weigh in on proposals -- good, bad or indifferent. However, I do feel compelled to provide thoughts on this proposal, as I do believe I am one of the few people involved in the Council/Block Authority/Foundation structure that has an almost daily interaction with the Voi Spaces.
First (and truly foremost), I see @red crypt @TacosAreLife 🌮 GM fam 😉 and @compact urchin as prime examples of non-technical, massively supportive, high energy members of the Voi community.
I have seen and heard about a number of people trying to analyze this (and the prior) Space host proposal in terms of "metrics". How many listeners? How many hours? How many onboarded? How many quality guests? And many other questions. I believe all grant requests should be subjected to scrutiny and questions -- and this one is no different. There is a tension, though, with providing clear, tangible outputs here in that these Spaces are designed to be predictable time slots that create a perpetual "vibe" for people to enjoy and discuss Voi or stumble upon Voi and have a friendly, excited member of the community to onboard them. We're not going to find specific metrics that "justify" a specific amount of $VOI.
There is also an "issue" in that these Spaces are incredibly informal, not recorded, held (usually) in a time slot that most of the Voi community will not be able to meaningfully participate. Typically, these Spaces open at or after 9:30 p.m. EST and are not recorded for people to listen to later (not that there is a ton of content that you'd take the time to come back to hear). But, this is much of the point (aside from the inability for many to even join -- this should be addressed by others in other regions doing much of the same to expand, not punish those who are already doing it) that these are Spaces that you know are going to be there, sets up a place to meet up and talk Voi and provide a welcome mat to others to join the community.
This brings me to a higher level item. I personally believe (and credit to @woeful spear to helping me see things a bit differently) that this grant request is much more about rewarding three Voi community members for showing up, every week, creating a fun environment, connecting people to the ecosystem and doing it without specific assurances beyond "protecting your own bag". This is what we want. We want Voi community members to step up and do things for the ecosystem. Promote it, ethically, Welcome and help people join in and find out about the virtues of the ecosystem. It's not about some "hourly wage", it's about exhibiting and implementing the ideals of the Voi community.
This grant (and the prior grant) also highlights a very material issue (in my eyes) that grant applicants really struggle with our process. Even our most avid community members -- involved in this application -- make extremely negative comments about the process, their treatment and perceived lack of appreciation. This tone has to change. Being subjected to a public review is not easy. It's hard to see others declare what is and is not your value. I've listened to many -- these applicants in particular -- vent about the process for what feels like over a year. It was never necessary and it isn't now.
Long story short (too late), I support this grant request. I support it because these are actors who should be rewarded for the almost daily passion to support and promote Voi. They've done that, in part, by adding to a predictable Twitter community with a place to stop in. I don't support it based on some "hourly wage" or specific metrics -- I just know that there are other high quality members now here because of it. Others should follow suit and grants should be funded for others who passionately support and promote the Voi ecosystem (i.e. people running and implementing $AMMO down the road).
