What happened with those folks? That was one of their better servers, no attack helicopters and using the map to its fullest.
Great stuff, this is an example of great map design and craftsmanship.

Old guys 2 are in no way, shape or form associated with the original Old Guys servers. Those servers were run by Brooks, who unfortunately made the decision to shut down. As someone who interacted with Brooks through my map being on the server, from everything ive heard, he simply did not want to continue running them and deleted them.
The old guys 2 ownership and admin team have been lying about the circumstances surrounding the shutdown of the original Old Guys. Making claims that an Brooks crashed out or had a mental breakdown, when that is not true at all.
Im sad Brooks made his departure, but no one has a right to be angry with him when it was all done for free, and we all see how this community treats server owners. And especially no one has a right to slander or disparage him while they use his entire mod list to grift.
The Old Guard, run by @placid lava and @flat saddle are the real deal.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Old Guys were the best servers I saw for a while, stable, not inundated with useless garbage and had all the right QoL.
It seems to be a trend, a mutual friend used to run Dark Horse Tactical and he pretty much just had enough and pulled the plug. Lots of hassle for pretty much providing a community service.
Good to see that a true in spirit successor has come along, though.

I do hope Bohemia can find a better way other than being an Approved Monetized Server to monetize, it still doesnt incentivize mod creation whatsoever and will only lead to quasi-monopolization of the Modded servers. That or servers operating sketchy donation rings/underground monetization, neither of which create an environment where the playerbase feel confident imo.

Id imagine they will have to. I’ve heard some figures from folks regarding the sunk costs and it is insane. Not to mention the time investment. These guys are better people then me, because id pull the plug way earlier 😂
There will be a serious problem when there are not enough community servers to accommodate the community. There already sort of isn’t, as modded conflict is largely unplayable imo during NA evening hours due to every server having 25 player queues.
