As some of you know I'm a 3D modeler from the start and have been modeling for the past couple years. What I haven't done that much are, clothing/equipment. So I decided I'd start making some and document it.
JPC - Wip
Looks great, can’t wait to see this
Here's one I made a bit back, you can already see my improvment on the JPC which is more recent.
Do note, I'm still learning this since it's basically a 180 from hard surface which is what I've done before. With that said, any tips/tricks, shoot them my way please!
not bad what software did you use?
I use Blender and Marmoset
nice. im not an artist by any means but i had used marvelous designer for a bit and was quite impressed with the outcome.
Yeah Marvelous is fantastic, however, I'm very much a novice there still so will have to learn it a bit more before I dive in to deep.
Sculpting in Blender can be quite limiting when you're doing clothing Ive noticed.
hey your still leagues above anything i could make in blender
Progress on texturing, this, I'm not good at yet haha.
Your HP is pretty good, I think you just need to add some variation to your base colours, a lot of fabric has minor specs of different shades in them, which when you look from afar kind of blends into a colour, I can try show an example, or if you look at some of the vanilla clothing it’s really well done in them too, but 3D model wise, it looks great
This is a very worn look example, but the principle is the same
Fantastic, great tip.
A sort of cheat code I use, doesn’t work for all but can work for some is:
add a “Fibers” texture, and only add height with it, very minimal height (.03 or something) so it’s really only barely visible in the correct lighting, and add an anchor point to that
Add an “Occlusion” smart mask and set you micro details both to true, and your Micro normal + Micro Height to the anchor point.
You should see it adds the occlusion to all the low spots of the fibers mask
In the occlusion only have colour + roughness and essentially make it the deepest black with the highest roughness (so it’s matte)
Then just adjust the opacity slider to very low so it’s barely visible and that will give you some shading in sort of a fabric style
Like I said though it doesn’t work for all fabrics, but it’s good to try 😄
this is assuming your using substance painter
I'm using Marmoset Toolbag atm. However, thinking about switching back to Substance. Will for sure try that then!
Marmoset just hurt my brain when I tried it haha, but you gotta use whatever you feel comfortable with
Ignore my guy arms lol
what arms?
This is 10x better man, looks great !
he looks like Elon Musk
Solid base. The folds you are sculpting are a little to sharp I would use a more rounded brush.
Yeah, just getting a hang of the possibilites rn. But you're 100% right for this particular vest.
