MILITARY OPERATIONS 2: SPECIAL FORCES
Operating as a 12-man Special Forces ODA team, you conduct direct action and special reconnaissance missions against the Soviet Union on the Island of Arland. Arland serves as a training base for Spetsnaz candidates going to Kolguyev and Everon theater of operations. Arland also serves as a weapons storage and maintenance facility. Your missions include indirect fire missions, sabotage infrastructure, destroy equipment, mining operations, ambushes, and seize area.

The LAV-25's maximum speed in water is around 6 to 6.5 miles per hour (10 kph), using its built-in rear propulsors to propel it across lakes, rivers, and shallow coastal waters as an amphibious vehicle, while its land speed reaches up to 62 mph.

This is surprisingly good. I got an HVT mission and while doing recon I saw a group get ordered to do PT or something. They ran in line to an obstacle course and started doing push-ups while an officer stood there doing some command emotes in front of them 😆
Completed the hit, flanked and decimated the QRF, called for helo exfil (EE heli transport/radio actions) and went back to the FOB.

The level of detail is great. It’s fun solo with “AI” and I can’t imagine how good it is with a solid squad. This has so much potential. Definitely gonna be awesome for milsim groups to use for some ops.

Let's try putting AI on dynamic spawn/despawn. I don't like using it due to the stuttering you get when you cross into a dynamic area.
I think the best solution is having the AI spawn when task is assigned for that area. But that limits the amount of AI interaction getting to the objective.

Just put this on my server to try out properly later. First impressions are excellent - I love how 'alive' it feels with random patrols and stuff. Really good stuff 🫡

One request tho - is there any chance the faction restrictions could be removed from the arsenal box? 🙏🏻 We use some modded gear, and are unable to save loadouts unless a GM is on to place an additional arsenal box.

Even 1 AI per second or even less could help. The issue is when all AI renders at the same time. I know a few mods that spawn AI over time and you don't really notice when they spawn in. Trainwreck Spawn System is one of those mods. Not saying you should use a mod for this but just so you get an idea.

Also, don't seem to be able to attach the remote detonated explosives to things...

Other than that - really good on there.

There was about 10 of us on my server playing SF last night and it was really good fun! Really like how it doesn't hold your hand for you and you have to actually think and read to progress.

The issue with the radio not generating additional tasks goes to a problem with restorelayertodefault not working with tasks. I keep checking it but no fix. A ticket has been put in but I don't ever see anything getting fixed for scenario framework. It is a long process to get things corrected.
If they don't fix it soon I am going to have to come up with an alternate solution that may not involve using a radio. Like making it like combat ops and spawn more tasks at once. I know it is a real pain in the ass having to restart the server as a work around. Priority 1 right now.

The remote demo charge is designed for one task. The remote kill task. I should take it out of the arsenal to eliminate its use. It must be put in the trunk of the vehicle to complete the remote kill task. I removed the ability to stick it to objects for that reason.

I appreciate all the positive feedback! I have put in a lot of effort to make sure things work in a dedicated environment this time around. I didn't do that much testing for MilOps 1 and it shows now.

Ahhh ok, could a random mission generator thing work? Similar to how Darc has his one? Just on a larger scale with longer time to complete etc - and then upon completion it automatically generates the next tasking.

Just an idea - I don't know enough about this side of things to comment properly 😂

Regarding the charges - thought as much, just wanted to flag it incase it wasn't intentional.

LOL! Yea that is one of the more complicated tasks and does require you to be at a GCE-level. 🤣

Yes, I could make it so you don't even have to go back to the COB before getting a new task but once again it depends on the restorelayertodefault to work correctly. I can look at DARC and see what it is doing.

I think I've said before, but I love how alive it feels - with AI just plodding around doing random stuff.

A few vehicle patrols or random helicopter passing over - even civilian cars driving past would really top it off, but I appreciate the immersion vs performance thing is always going to be an issue I guess..

EE_Frontline ops is another good one with random task generating, similar to Darc Missions.

Really looking forward to how this develops.

Due to issues with the scenario framework restore layer to default not working with tasks properly I've done a complete rework of the scenario. It is currently being tested on a dedicated server and if good there I will update and release.

  • No radio to launch tasks.
  • 4 Patrol bases to randomly start at.
  • You are now going to conduct Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRPs) across the island.
    • Free roaming. You and your unit decide where to go.
  • As you move across the island you will be assigned tasks.
  • You should be able to maintain persistence on server as long as you don't restart. **NEEDS FULL TESTING! **

In regard to GM persistence mod, I noticed a delay in the arsenal spawning with the players hub. Could be an issue with the arsenal when delayed and then doesn't finish spawning.

Short answer No. I don't like GM because it completely changes the intention of how I built the mission.

For example, Military Operations 2: Special Forces is designed as a Special Forces A Team infiltrated on to Arland so it is expected not to have any vehicles, HQ, helipads etc. Now for US Army Rangers it will have the ability to build a base after you capture the major objection for one of the 4 starting operations. And then of course you can move supplies forward and build as you go. The same will be with Combined Arms.

I’ve never had issues with that. But I used GM to change some weather, CRX Ai settings, RHS CISS, etc.
and in the AR scenario we’re definitely not starting with a ranger loadout and there’s no way to get an arsenal until you build one way later.
From his response, I took it as “play this exactly how I want or don’t play at all”. Which is fine. It’s his mod to do with what he pleases. But if people spawning vehicles is what he’s trying to stop, well there’s ways around that without GM. And yes I could make a settings preset into a mod IF I could use workbench but I’m on PS so yeah. Sucks for me I guess 😆

Purpose: Announce updates to current operations
Background: Continuous improvements during planning and implementation stages for deployment to Kolguyev Theater of Operations (KTO)

Discussion: OPERATION ANACONDA and DIAMONDBACK are released for training ops, with follow-on operations copperhead, cottonmouth, death adder, and python. Equipment issues on the LAV-25 have been resolved. New awards/hint system established.

Recommendation: Update scenarios to reflect latest changes in overall mission scenario requirements.

Discussion: Operation ANACONDA and COPPERHEAD are released. Primary tasks (Attack) are completed.

  • Alpha Company (Class V), 498th Forward Support Battalion has been added to advance party elements.
  • Bravo Company (Maintenance), 498th Forward Support Battalion has been added to advance party elements.
  • D Company, 17th Engineer Battalion is waiting for capture of Kamansk to come ashore at dock area for MOB construction.

Future State:

  • Add Operations DEATH ADDER and COTTONMOUTH for follow-on from COPPERHEAD.
  • Complete primary tasks (Attack) and expand tasks to defend and SAD.

Recommendation: Update scenarios to reflect latest changes in overall mission scenario requirements.

Discussion: Operation Anaconda and all follow-on attack tasks completed. Mockups and walk-throughs completed. Bi-direction attack plan developed, north and south axis. Tested in National Training Computer Center (NTCC) at Fort Irwin, CA. Operations plans uploaded to US Army Data Center as a Service (DCaaS), Fort Gordon, GA for final evaluation.

Future State:
Additional FOB's and assembly areas. Secondary taskings will be added synchronized to primary attack objectives.

Recommendation: Update scenarios to reflect latest changes in overall mission scenario requirements.

**Purpose: ** Announce updates to current operations
Background: Continuous improvements during planning and implementation stages for deployment to Kolguyev Theater of Operations (KTO)

**Discussion: ** Bi-directional Operations are completed and tested. Tested in National Training Computer Center (NTCC) at Fort Irwin, CA. Operations plans uploaded to US Army Data Center as a Service (DCaaS), Fort Gordon, GA for final evaluation. 4 Assembly Areas (SNAKEPIT) are released. 498th Forward Support Battalion (-) from 2nd Armored Division (FWD), 7th Corps USAEUR has to been fully deployed for unit level support.

**Future State: **
Secondary taskings are being developed and integrate into OPPLAN. Area defense follow-on tasks, Underground mine facilities clearing. Strategic and Tactical raids to destroy equipment.

Recommendation: Update scenarios to reflect latest changes in overall mission scenario requirements.

Discussion: 21st Replacement detachment has been deployed to all Assembly Areas (SNAKEPIT) to request additional personnel. TACOM has established vehicle depots at infiltration points in the event of total vehicle loss. Submit DA3161 to S-4, 2nd Ranger to request new LAV-25. Perform inventory and hand receipt transfer.

Future State:
Secondary taskings are being developed and integrate into OPPLAN. Area defense follow-on tasks, Underground mine facilities clearing. Strategic and Tactical raids to destroy equipment.

Military Operations 2 is now a limping along.

I crashed my C drive on my PC and didn't have a backup. Lessons learned.

I've recovered about 99% of the work but the string table is not able to copy over from the workshop version and all text would need to be recreated. The texture .edds files would need to be recreated as well. My apologies. I'll leave it up on the workshop for a bit but it will degrade with updates and need to be pulled down. I am working on learning to script so that is my focus for now.

I have to figure out the string tables and create new ones. Take a very long time to that.

Yea tell me about it. I lost awhole lot of work. I might be able to salvage it. The custom text and localization is the killer.

Yea I have github too, just didn't put this project up on it. @olive steeple The extraction worked. Thanks for that. Only thing missing is the string table file. All the text and .conf files are there but the .st file is not. Looking into it.
