It may not feasible this update but I’d sincerely recommend adding some kind of barrier to using mortars with AI. There is no incentive to use mortars yourself outside of wanting smoke and illumination shells.

I think there should be a mortar crew AI you can request from barracks that require lieutenant or captain rank to spawn.

Alternatively, you could instead increase the rank requirement on the mortar pit itself to lieutenant or captain.

Additionally, although I don’t see this as important as my prior recommendation, it’d be nice if HE shells were lieutenant rank as opposed to captain.
