TLDR; Adds jamming to small arms and crew served weaponry.

For the nerds:
This adds an onWeaponFired event handler that checks the muzzle types and spawns a random number. If that number lands on the jam number, it jams the current cartridge, forcing you to press R to pull the charging handle to clear.

The default (and current) jam chance is .005%, and in future updates, will fluctuate based off of terrain wetness, weather, how much it has shot, etc...

For sure, but I want to handle it a bit differently from small arms/open air weaponry. Just more so a technical aspect. Right now, any weapon will jam outside of launchers/m203/gp25.

Bug Report)

  • To clear malfunction your character using the bolt release (not realistic) better option would be using the charging handle
  • sometimes you can get ghosts mags

So update on the issue of it not using the charging handle. So it uses it for the first malfunction but every after it’s the bolt release

Another issue I noticed in testing was that any weapon without a clear animation loses the entire magazine/box attached. An example of this is the M2 .50 on the jeep/hmmwv. Since there's no animation of pulling the charging handle (to my knowledge), it replaces the entire box.

i tested the mod, and here is what i think:
It is great! a simple application for an advanced mechanic that games rarely have, if there were some more variables such as weapon type, barrel heat, and weapon age/condition this would be amazing, will 100% be using this mod all of the time, i wish devs did something like this for vanilla

Was already waiting for something like this.
Some fun condition i was thinking about for this: Reload ( R ) will have lower chance to un-jam and need to be pressed multiple times.
However if you hit/smash the jammed weapon against something wall/stone/wood depending on the surface you hit it against it will un-jam much faster.
Would be really fun to have some mechanics like this.

Just a question our server log looks like this every time a weapon shoots just wondering if it will overload the log with the information when we have more than 30 players online is there a way to remove this line or something so its not showing up in the log

0.005% chance is very low but you don't like it to happen very often.
Maybe increase chance whenever a weapon is burst fired for a longer duration.

Like the description states, it is completely random right now just to add something for jamming. It'll have improved functionality in the coming days.

So this also means you can entirely get away with no jams if you're lucky. Consider it a luck stat :]

That perfectly make sense that they make it player only for the very reason that AI would be blocked with gun jammed just like they are blocked when out of ammo in a mounted weapon

No, those are all animations and systems. If BI wants to add that (and jamming) later to reforger, then they will. I'm just a programmer.

Would be good take off the jamming from the big guns, sometimes some vehicles dont have more mags for be abble to press R to Reload/jamming and you got stuck, Its better only in light guns

I broke everything.

Development on this is basically back seated as we work on bigger projects for the Friday night games we host. Stat logging to databases, an AAR system, etc..

I dont have an eta for it right now guys, but I can at least get the current version updated to work well with 1.2.1.

Ok I locked in just for you @hybrid marsh.

  • Removed jamming from vehicles
    • Only primary and secondary weapons will jam
  • Added a fluctuating jamming chance based off of water factors
  • Added weapon deterioration
    • Weapons jam more after they've been submerged in water
    • Weapons jam more after they've been in rain
    • Weapons slowly jam less when they're out of rain and dry off

I'm open to adjusting default jamming values to specific weapons if anyone wants to provide ideas with proof lol.

New mod coming up on the workshop.

It'll work with everything by default. Anything in primary or secondary slots. I didn't check the 2nd primary slot tho. Let me test that rq.

Yeah okay it works fine for all weapons, to include mods, in both "primary" slots. Your seconday slot also jams if submerged.

Do you think it would be possible to add settings in like GM or a JSON in the profile folder for being able to allow us to set our own chances? I think this would be cool as then we could set them how we want and you wouldn't have to hardcode all of it into the mod itself. May not be possible, but would be cool. 🙂

How did you spawn? The player entity is never null.

I haven't been able to replicate it in tools but I'll check later.

Regular rain shouldnt be that big of a problem for most service weapons, but maybe if the character crawls alot in the mud? Soldiers are taught to keep their weapon from touching the ground when crawling, but shit happens and mud splashes.

Also suppressors should increase the jamming rate and durability burn

Last thing I would add is a server owner configurable multiplier setting like ACE does for example with the missionheaders in config so that everyone can adjust this to their liking.

Right, if there was a way to track weapon type along with some of the previously mentioned factors it'd be nice but unfortunately I think that'd require a ton of scripting

This mod is a script and it will constantly have to run to check to see if the parameters are met.

Try deleting the mod file in the server and have the server redownload it
