5 Large Islands in the Martinique Channel in the Grenadines. So far, I'm halfway done with the main Island. Will keep u guys updated on my progress. Lots of shanty towns and compounds. It's 1:1 replica scale using HQ satellite pictures for reference and placement of every single building.

its 300km^2 total, Union island itself is 9km^2 of terrain, but the total area is around 300km^2 plus the other islands which should total around 20 or 30 km^2 of terrain and the rest is ocean

Due to the size of the map, 300km, it will be a perfect map for fixed wing aircraft and flight in general. I’ve been flying around, and scale is perfect. I’m super excited to see this project thru, estimated time to finish is approximately 4 to 6 months for islands to be completely done. I’ll probably make an alpha release on steam workshop in about a month for playtesting. 🤙

Are you making custom buildings for the islands or using only the vanilla ones? looking phenomenal either way!
I’m keeping everything vanilla due to the size of the map, that way I don’t allow myself to go overboard adding dependencies to it. After it’s finished, I may add mods to the final map as different versions, but Bohemia is updating their toolsets as the new updates roll in and I want to avoid issues. The primary reason for keeping it vanilla in the building stage is strictly for performance and optimization purposes.

Union Islands WIP
How is this possible to have so many trees yet still have around 60 frames on a 1070? I have more than 10,000 trees being rendered in the frame.
if it runs like this on my pc, it will run better on Xbox. So fingers crossed this is gonna play smoothly, I'm being really smart about optimization and such so it should run fine on everything hopefully. I have alot of occlusion boxes and hills which helps tremendously.

Remainder of Island that needs to be finished! Almost done. Next part is the windward side on the Western portion of the Island which is mostly trees and wilderness.
This portion as well as south Ashten are going to be just as hard as making the dense cities, as making the wilderness feel "right" takes a lot of time and thinking, as well as analyzing erosion patterns, and scaping the landscape.
If anything, once it is done is should have this sort of "style" to the wilderness portions.

Though the little details do make it really nice, love the use of rocks on the mountains, feels like vanilla
yep, I looked at how they built the cliffs and just did that, but used the fucus cliffs which are meant to be on the shoreline and underwater or near water, but it fits well with the tropical look where its slightly damp.
The cliffs are layered ontop of eachother pretty much, lots and LOTS of cliffs, using just three prefabs, rotated around and jutting out of the terrain at different angles which creates variety.
with the fucus cliffs you get a nice shine and reflection which looks good at different times of day compared to the matte grey "dry" cliffs

Also, alot of the tutorials on youtube are getting scale wrong within the world editor, so people are having issues where the map is much smaller than the real life counterpart as they are not accounting for terrain area, mistaking width for area.
I fixed this issue within the params of the terrain heightmap, so the scale is 1:1 with no engine issues I have seen so far, it feels bigger, but more realistic.
it feels bigger cause normally everything is scaled down in gameworld sense, I just made it as close to reality in terms of scale as possible, and the outcome is great, which I think is what makes enfusion engine different than other game engines as this manages to simulate real world terrain sizes in a very well optimized way.
If you increase the far plane, larger than your world size, if your RAM can take it, it will show you your entire terrain, here I made the far plane 20,000 meters, being that my world is 17.9x17.9 km, which comes out to 320 km^2 which is larger area than Altis, and in game I am getting around 80 frames with a micro ATX build, GTX 1070 8 gb VRAM. So I would say enfusion completely fixes the frame issue that plagued the arma games of the past.
Now the biggest issue for bohemia I believe is netcode, syncing all game simulation aspects and physics properties globally in a multiplayer environment. With simple simulation you could probably have planetside level of players on a terrain if its strictly PvP. This would be impressive to see with Arma 4.

yeah, One guy said I need to fix my file structure, but I tried that and it just broke my whole terrain so I had to iterate to the backup to fix it. So I don't really know for now.

You are quick with the updates, the map by the grid wise seems small but it seems like in person it’s going to be a pretty nicely sized main island

It’s not a bad map it’s just not what I wanted I can’t really do anything with it that I could do with other maps so there is really no use for it and I’d rather have the storage room for maps I will use more often
What would u like, if you request I can make a diff version with recommendations, right now I’m still in alpha phase just laying stuff down, then after, I can delete certain building and areas and create slots and such or empty map. When it’s done there will be more rural areas with space to place things down and build your own bases.

Looking at the irl sat images of the island, and it does confirm my suspicion that the ATC tower and hangar should a bit further away from the runway if that’s possible at all.
tbh I think it is a great allrounder that brings a lot of new things to the table, you have a mix of urban, open, and densely forested areas, perfect for any conflict gamemode or GM mission
A lot of other maps that take on larger scale are very sparse and lack variation and detail
True and I like the big citys that you don’t see much but to be honest the map itsself it just a bit to small like you can play it a few times but after that you would just be doing the same thing over and over
I get that seeing the sights over and over can get boring, but given the amount of detail throughout the map there will all ways be something new to see, not only that but i cant wait to see what conflict on these islands will be like, we havent yet gotten any maps on workshop that have dense forests like this map, so maybe check it out once its done 👍

Progress being made, the rest of island is pretty much massive forests and super vertical cliffs but these still take alot of time to detail to get right.

Maybe I’ll find a big cargo ship model, or build one out, and place it in north mayreau channel moored in a big cove.
If you’ve played ground branch, or original ghost recon games of early 2000’s, my goal is to create CQB environments with combining the vibes of all the ground branch maps in a single open world tropical environment.
Then I need to find a way to fake terrain on the ships and oil rigs so that Navmesh will work on them, like cover points for AI similar to how they have cover points on the Gamemaster place-able structures.
This way when you tell AI to defend say oil rig or cargo ship, they will occupy the entire ship in certain spots they will guard and other spots they will patrol, and other spots they will loiter and chill in resting animations.
The conflict mode will be primarily drug cartel VS US military in 2024, connected to a spin off of the Guyana conflict.
The independent force will be modern day pirates, instead of FIA and soviets which is primarily in Eastern European theatre.
This way it’s reminiscent of Tanoa kind of. Except it’s in Atlantic instead of the pacific.
One team starts in mayreau, other team starts in petite Martinique and must capture island bases from pirates to get resources and supplies, pirates will have complete control of all islands and the main Union Island, so most of the fighting by both forces will be to conquer Union Island after they have fully captured their neighboring islands and created supply chains on them. This is where most of the conflict game mode will occur, where both teams fight over the main airfield and the main city of Clifton as that will have the highest amount of resources available, and the airfield will give the controlling team fixed wing attack aircraft instead of just transport choppers.
I’m keeping everything vanilla assets for now so that everything runs smooth and dependencies can be added on once stable 1.0 is released.
I've always loved the game Medal of Warfighter. It's a really good modern military game and you could take inspiration from that or Ghost Recon Wildlands/Future Soldier.

What’s the current progress on the map
It’s in Alpha testing RN. Version 0.2.6, I just added collision to palm trees, so I will be updating navmesh with collision in 0.2.7, all objects are almost done being layed out for Union Island, then detailing work will begin, such as adding props, gardens, outdoor points of interest etc. Once Union island is done I will move on to Palm Island and then Mayreau, then the archipelago of 5 islands to the east about 3km from mayreau, then the last archipelago of 6 islands to the south of mayreau about 14km away. 14 islands total stretching over an area of 320km^2, I’m going to add a large cargo ship moored outside a cove in mayreau and many small oil rigs and a single large oil rig deep in the south west portion of the map as well when it’s fully done. This way you could take a helicopter or a RHIB to all the islands and oil rigs when it’s fully done.
I wouldn’t go too heavy on the oil rigs, and make it more island focused, such as 2 small and 1 large, also a cave system would be interesting that goes between 2 islands
cave going between 2 islands would be too noticable as it would look like its part of the same island or it be visibly connected, unless undewater, then the cave itself would be underwater.

nope, you cant make a cave under the ground without exposing the top portion of the cave which needs to be hidden with rock objects
its not like normal ground where you can have a tunnel, you have to cover the top with something, otherwise it just looks like tiny ridge

the caves are just an illusion in cliff areas, they don't actually go underground sadly.

That is unfortunate, I saw on the nomad map they managed to do something with caves but I’m not sure
I have three caves, and plan to make more. One cave has vertical aspect to it, so it looks almost like a mineshaft with ladders that goes deeper.

another cave is more claustrophobic so it gets more and more narrow the farther in you go, and you have to go prone to just barely make it to the other side.
You should add a ton of dead ends to that cave 
I'm also gonna make sea caves in the coves and bluffs.
I'll have some larger cave systems in the northwest portion of the island as sea caves.
the goal is to make the caves large enoughon the inside so that GM's can build inside it, like set up small buildings and create there own walls and paths and stuff.
You planning on making a naval port type deal like Pearl Harbor?
The island chain is volcanic so it makes sense to have some larger cave systems near bluffs
already have two ports so far, Clifton Bay and Ashton Bay, and many smaller piers all around the island. Clifton Bay is the most industrialized port as it has deepest water in the Bay.
I’m pretty excited for this project to be complete it’s for sure something I’d be adding to my server
This is a second world country as well, so things aren't going to be very industrialized, alot of it is more rugged, shanty towns, mixed with vacation resorts.
It's similar to venezuela or Haiti.
Overall I believe there will be five ports, Two in Mayreau I think, Two in Union Island which already are there, and One in Petite Martinique, there could be more however.

My goal is to keep the islands as close to the original islands as possible so that other people can use it as a sandbox to build whatever they want on top of that. When I make a conflict mode I will modify all of the buildings but for layout phase I’m just keeping it 1:1 with the sat map for placement purposes so that everything looks right from the start.
This airfield is fairly large in game, it a smaller airfield in reality but in game it feels big, and there is plenty of space to turn it into a military base and add extra buildings. It’s a civilian airfield atm, but in GM mode you can fortify it and turn it into a military base.

also, are you aware of layers? in GM mode ifyou don't want the extra stuff near the helipad and you just want it bare, you can enable layers in your GM settings, and then you can manually delete all the extra stuff from the helipad.
takes a bit of extra prep, but it opens up way more possibilities with GM as you can build much more stuff.

you have to fly slower over the tree areas cause there are many hidden clearings,
i made it super dense on purpose cause that's what its like in real life
theres only so many spots you can actually land, unless you get creative or are a very good pilot and can fit in tight spaces, then there is many many places to land. You'd be surprised where you can fit.
also, you can do hover landings on slopes, you don't have to put it down fully on the skids to drop peeps off, you can hang one skid off the slope at a 45 degree angle,
There is no doubt they’re spots but if it is a military area aka fighting is happening there would definitely be helipads, bunkers, and cut down trees

Yeah I completely understand that especially appreciate the 1:1 I would suggest adding a few military aspects because again war game. It is also difficult to fit compositions in good areas.
I don't want to deviate from reality for this map in terms of where buildings are placed or treeline.
I'll make a conflict version of the map with mil bases, and another GM version of the map with military sites

I am putting a bunch of yacht rock in the radio playlist and some royalty free calypso music. alot of songs are pre 1974 which is where copyright law ends for anything published before that.
but its also all for noncommercial purposes so the record labels most likely won't even know
or care 😄 now if it was drake songs then yea, i'd prob get cease and desist, but that's only if other people start making money off ad revenue through lets say youtube videos going viral.

And for anyone else that might reply. It was already stated that the map is made 1:1 realistically. If there is a challenge for you to overcome then figure it out. That’s part of why people play these types of games.

Also with it being a bunch of islands its likely any conflict would be lead by a Naval task force. So aircraft would likely be launched from a carrier. With maybe marines using Amphibious craft or jumping from helos into shallow water. Lots of ways to do this you just have to have an imagination.

The jungle provided camouflage, easy traps, lots of protection from air to ground as well as tons of positions to ambush from. Hence the napalm bombs. Not sure what Europe has to do with this lol.

The thing with Vietnam is more that counter insurgency is hard and when the state you are propping up goes through multiple military coups it gets even harder. If the jungle was the whole issue then why would the Viet Cong Guerrillas take like three times the PAVN's casualties over the Tet Offensive

Majority of the fighting happened in the jungles, and majority of the deaths happened in the jungle. We couldn’t take the jungles and kept getting shot from the trees so we lost.

Just a suggestion for the next update. If you like, you can hide the "HORNIK" sign on the mountain restaurant, without altering the prefab. Just drag the sign into the wall or underground.

I added new sand texture so I need to experiment with the beaches a bit, till I find the right look, for now I just made it sand, till I can find something to blend it with.
The pebbles I had for Dirt_01 were overboard with this beach sand texture so I need to retouch up all the beaches which is gonna take a while.

Some of the beach on windward side SW is filler till I add the cliffs, as this takes a very long time to detail cliffs with larger terrains.

Cause you have to resculpt it and repaint it, and then resnap the forest generators after resculpting, which takes forever. And then you have to get creative with the cliff prefabs to make the points look natural, north side points near big sands resort are close to done, as this will be a good representation of how the cliffs will look.

I haven’t added props and minor details to that beach yet or beaches in general, I just replaced the Dirt_01 with the beachsand texture, it will look better in the next updates to come.
I still gotta make the rest of the Islands, sculpt them and add infrastructure and vegetation and surface masking. That will continue into the next month most likely.

Sometimes issues can be mod related cause the map is mainly vanilla for the most part besides the custom radio and custom textures which shouldn’t cause any ping issues.
Some of the larger mods stacked on top of eachother that are very script heavy can cause lag issues if they aren’t compatible with eachother or if they are overriding other mods.
Try testing the terrain in vanilla and let me know if there are any ping issues, or frame drops.

I think it takes an xbox player about 15-30 minutes to install the map I'm being so fr. I'm not sure if that's normal though
Microsoft limits download speeds on xbox, current cap for the workshop is 10Mb/s no matter how fast your internet is

Probably arma, I’m wired and gta 5 xs the version that’s like 100gb takes 20-30 min vs 2-3 on wireless
It appears to only affect Reforger's workshop. I get way faster downloads with everything else but thats also downloading addons and things from Microsoft (Xbox store, etc) rather than a 3rd party host in game

I’m still in first phase, terrain sculpting painting and building layout, creating roads and vegetation. Second phase is infrastructure (power lines, service type structures, and refining building layout), then third phase is minor details, (sidewalks, urbanization, beaches, decals, props.) Then it’s optimization after that in fourth phase which is 1.0 (what needs to be added and what needs to be taken away)
Rn we are in 0.2.8 not even out of Alpha, at .5 we are in beta, then 1.0 is official release.

You can see the vertical aspect of the village situated on a hill, which would require some thought in terms of terrain sculpting, which areas need to be flattened and which areas need to be adjusted to match the height map. The hard part is putting flat bottom buildings on a slope, and making it look natural.
Gonna be a good challenge! Especially if you have pavements to place 😄

You could do a angled concrete or brick base under some of the houses
Cool thing about these vanilla buildings is they already have full bottoms and some even basements, so they work well on angled surfaces.

just fixed it,
making slow progress on Mayreau, this gonna take a bit of time to get right, very difficult island.
This slopey town has got my brain fried. its so annoying switching from terrain sculpting to painting, to messing with road heightmaps, then vectors trying to fix roads on slope, getting intersections smoothed out, then trying to smooth out terrain to fit these houses on sloped angles, very very hard haha
I guess for now I will put down general layout, smooth out the intersections, then work on detailing later
This gonna take a while, much more involved process for this town than the larger towns on Union Island, where it was primarily flat terrain.
