Here's the official enf_showcase for our map. This is a condensed version of Helmand Province, inspired by the work @worldly oracle did on Kunar.

Currently WIP, but several main landmarks are sorted. Hopefully should allow for more large scale combat and urban operations ๐Ÿ™‚

Ideas / Feedback welcome, but please be constructive with it! I am a solo dev and work full time outside of this :p

Have you thought about covering the entirety of the black space and open area with sparse Trees and grass, as placeholder until you do another pass through it and add all the detail?

A mixture of woods, open fields with rocks and sparse trees on rolling hills, and the occasional village - thats Afghanistan either way
So filling in the blanks with a wash of grey then adding some touches of color here and there over time isnt a bad idea, cause then instead of people waiting for the map to be "Done" (Look at how unused Zimnitrita is), before they use it, they can use this one and itll have features added over time

yeah the thing with helmand is it is literally just flat and desert ๐Ÿ˜‚ but going with some creative freedom to add a bit of colour etc for gameplay experience, and there's gonna be a load of small villages or single houses dotted everywhere

And even deserts have their nuances, like 3 meter tall sand dunes here and there, or defalades in rocks

yeah for sure, it looks flat on the previews but it is a bit more hilly / duney than it looks as I didn't want it to be flat anyway. Plus trees / villages / ruins / houses etc all break up the landscape

Theres Bost Airport, Dwyer Airport, and Dostmohammadkhan Kalay Airport

realistically there should be 3 of them, excluding the recently abandoned Camp Shorabak airfield

Yeah there'll be the main airport that's nearish lashkar gah, and then a camp bastion style MOB which will be the biggest on there, potentially another depending on space

Keep in mind it isn't a 1to1 helmand due to the scale being used, and layouts of cities etc aren't the same but they're roughly in the right places and designed with gameplay in mind rather than 100% realism ๐Ÿ˜Š

There were no planes until the a10 mod to know take off distances, so started with a short runway that a jet would be able to use, but will make sure longer runways exist

Will have everything shown so far on the trailers but will mostly be 1 small section of the map and a large portion will be filled with trees / rocks

yeah it will be tested to make sure it runs fine, I'm conscious of how particle effects can kill frames ๐Ÿ™‚ and it's an easy change to do if it doesn't work well

Some expanding of the open lands there, perhaps from the HMMWV, to the distant town, and along the river, and you look like you have a good chunk of playable space

i only have time to put a few hours in a night, but i'm getting there ๐Ÿ™‚ the right hand side of that screenshot does have a decent play space. maybe op specific etc, but yeah more to do before I'm happy with releasing the first public early access of it

we'll be testing it in the next few weeks on a private server with a few people I think to see how it runs and feels, then a bit more work before making the mod public

Just my opinion, but Iโ€™d personally not want smoke to be there and just have it be a GM choice to place smoke there or not. Itโ€™d make the scrapyard look less active or more active as they wish. Would also remove the worry about server performance regarding the s,okie.

Yeah they didn't seem to listen to GM orders for some reason, despite working in the workbench. Trying to regenerate the navmeshes but having a problem with publishing atm

I think what I'll do is get a few more POIs down, few villages and then fill dead space with a small amount of trees and farms to get the map out in a public state whilst working on more

Not wanting to put a date on a public version of it just yet, but we do run test ops on the weekend for it

Sorry folks, yes this is still planned soon!
Will be after 1.0, but almost alongside it. Had a busy personal life going on but this is very much still in development ๐Ÿ’ช will try and get a decent update put to you in the near future

apologies for the lack of info. I've picked the work back up again now and we're getting some slow progress at least ๐Ÿ™‚ potentially going to release it as a WIP map as I've seen other WIP maps with less stuff on so I don't feel as bad releasing mine whilst there's still a fair amount to do

I was back and forth between that too, but there does seem a place for the more sandy stuff

I've kept the compacted dirt around the cities. I'll see if I can get the balance right, compacted in the more travelled routes and sand further out

Itโ€™s really good man, a few things Iโ€™d say is maybe try to add a little bit more to the open space, I donโ€™t personally mind but some might and second is maybe add some more greenery to the mix by having a green zone or two to add a little bit more flavour to the map, I got some ok pictures I could fine, some are of areas in the neighboring province of Kandahar but the terrain should be virtually the same

The south of the country gets more water then up north and with your map having a massive river running through it would make sense

@magic mangoTried locally hosting Helmand and I was tanking down to 55 FPS from 120 FPS. Thought maybe it was because I was hosting so I threw it up on my server hosted through PingPerfect and Im still stuck around 55-60 fps instead of my usual 120. Im running a 7900xtx and 7800x3d. upscaled to 4k from 80 percent. I havent had my console buddies try it yet but i'm curious what youre seeing in terms of performance? IK TFG has some console gamers too.

I'm not sure how or where you'd change this but you have to have some sort of artificial fps cap at 60 on here. At the bare minimum settings, I'm still only getting 65fps for the map.

I checked my server settings and I can hit 100-120 fps on Benghazi and Fallujah on the same server so it's gotta be somewhere there. I can't remember having an option for that on Benghazi but I'll check it tonight and see if I do. Map looks hella fun though!

Yeah I'm not sure, I definitely didn't change anything to do that and i wouldn't think its as performance heavy as those two maps at all

I wouldn't either. Benghazi is a performance hog because it's so flat and dense. Helmand is pretty flat but It shouldn't have that big of an effect. I'll do some digging on my side too.

Been informed that some of the placed guns have somehow duplicated themselves several times on top of eachother which may explain the fps hit

so i got lazy with my map and seleted everything and ctrl c/ ctrl v alot of my roads/builings/walls/rocks/props and once i place it down i got some lag and tested it....it was so bad i crashed went back to edit tools to see everything dup like 3-5 times......but if you pick one by one and then copy and paste youll be fine

I had the same issue. Spent weeks going through each building, wall, door, and tree to delete the duplicates. I'm sure I didn't get them all but got a lot and got a decent fps boost from it.

Update: FPS bumped to around 80-90 at my normal settings so a still lower than most maps but better now. Not sure if my server was still loading stuff in or not before.

Other issue, it seems as though the navmesh needs updated. In garsmir the AI is repeatedly getting stuck walking into walls and buildings as well as trying to shoot through buildings as if they weren't there.

I regenerated the navmesh once I'd finished, but will regenerate it again when I sort the duped stuff out too

Sure thing. I'm really perplexed on the fps spike I got from 7pm to midnight. I really liked the layout of the city of Garsmir. I think if you added some wadi's and some stuff in the mountains that would make the map feel really rounded out.

Also, I'm terms of the navmesh, I've found that just regenerating it doesn't update it. After I update mine, I go through and change my soldier navmesh to low res and low res to soldier then change them back.

That seems to make the workbench recognize they've been updated and let me save it.

Yeah I should make use of that larger mountain on the side of garmsir and a couple of settlements in the middle strip of mountain near the airport (which will be getting a revamp itself too)

Ill preface by stating I've never been in the Helmand province so idk if it's actually there or not but it looks unnatural and out of place.

Gotcha, it was there from the height map of the section of helmand I used so I just went with it

And it kinda breaks up the map slightly from being completely flat and open but I could look to make it more use able than just a random mountain

I wouldn't change that strip yet. I'll mess w it some more. I think if anything it just needs to be widened w more elevation variance but I'll let you know.

Gets to 86% loading the world and then closes, so I think it's one of the entities that's either been removed or changed location in the folder structure of the dependencies

I haven't yet, I think it's likely to do with kioks as it was working a little while ago before it got changed to atc

There isn't really anything obvious in the logs to suggest what crashes, and it just closes the application so no crash log

Do you think it's possibly duplicated entities stacked on top of each other still?

Nah it wasn't crashing with that, I feel like it's something I've used that's no longer in or something

I don't really know how to give about diagnosing the issue tbh with it not showing much in the way of a callstack

It's partly my fault for not really keeping up with mod updates onto he dependencies

The only thing I can think of is the name change for kioks atc but there isn't anything changed inside that mod from what I can tell

@magic mango Hey boss, my group has started using this map but have run into the issue where when AI orders are placed - they immediately dissapear. Was wondering if you were aware and had a fix in the pipeline or if this project is DoA?

It was dead due to some crashes and I couldn't get around as it crashed the tools every time too

But I'll take a look tonight and see if I can fix the AI if I can open it now. It's interesting you have been able to put it on without issue ๐Ÿค”

Ya, we have 0 crashes on this map. It runs properly too.

It is just a matter of AI being a issue; other than that everything was working.

If you are fixing bugs then I have a few to report

Whenever placing an order for AI to move in a vehicle crashes the person from the server and the server needs to be reset for them to join back, Fov is stuck to 70 no matter what you do.

We move the map to any other map and none of the above issues occur

The map hasn't been updated since before ai update so that will be the result of those related issues

Fov is weird, will look into it

I can open it in tools now blobdoggoshruggoogly but my layers file is missing stuff, so looking into how I can revert it to the current published version and will then redo the navmesh for the new ai stuff

Glad to see the work will continue, you have a amazing little map that can facilitate some big ideas. Hopefully you can get it back to full working order.

Good news, I have managed to restore my project files so should be able to get an update out over the weekend

Will add a little bit of content as well as an apology for it being broken for so long ๐Ÿ˜… I'd kinda left it as I'd ran out of steam for map stuff

AI fix should be out (seemed to work in tools anyway) ๐Ÿ™

I will say I don't know if I'll be adding to this now or when, I dont have the time and there's a lot of good maps on the horizon (takistan etc) but I'll maintain any critical issues like crashes / broke AI etc ๐Ÿ™‚

@magic mango ai commands don't work, and the fov is scuffed badly

I was running it on my server last night for 15 minutes and none of them were working, had built a op in gm at the airport, I would command them to move or defend and it would disapear after 10 seconds

completely deleted all the navmeshes and regenerated from scratch, changed the camera manager too so hopefully the FOV is no longer locked

1.0.6, if the AI isn't fixed on the server this time can I have logs or something please? It works in tools still

if it's specific faction mods then I'm not sure I'd be able to fix it unless there's something fundamentally different with my map setup that causes it but not sure there is from what I can tell
