Vehicle Repair System!
Includes Repair Toolkit, Tire Repair Kit, Fire Extinguisher, and Jerrycan (for refueling)!

Tested and working on 0.9.9.47!
I've added it to US, USSR, & FIA arsenals under equipment (will show in conflict clothing boxes too).

How it works:
Items must be held in hand via the quickbar to get the action to appear near the front of the vehicle.
Some vehicle parts can not be repaired if on fire, they must be extinguished first.
Extinguish times about 10sec.
Repair times about 20sec per action.
Jerrycan refuels about 1/4 of a jeep's gas tank.
Vehicles are not repairable once they explode.

This adds an exciting element to "beat the clock" to repair the vehicle before it explodes!
possibly adding more in depth features in the future!

Next on my list: Awarding XP points for the different repair actions!

everything at once for now! but it takes a good 15-20 sec to complete the action

eventually id like to add XP for doing the action as well, then again when they push out vehicle repair for vanilla that could change things for this mod drastically!

update: adjusted the action point forward and up a bit (further away from flip vehicle mod's action point). The action will now be more toward the front of the vehicle. Currently not compatible with any known tank mods.

Can you make the tool box a double heavier? 5kg seems a bit light... 10kg would be ok.

Also I would make the reparation time a bit longer, just to make sure people don't get away from danger that easily.
For example 15-20 seconds it might seem like a lot, but it really isn't. I can definitely see a lot of potential in teamwork covering a guy repairing a vehicle in 30/40secs.
It still is less than a minute so no big deal

Another question ...
Is the toolkit reusable?
Or it has a limit of usage?

If it's usage is unlimited it'll be cool to have a sort of backpack dedicated for this instead of having it as an equipment.
Kinda like radiopack works.

Fire Extinguisher added!
Vehicles can not be repaired if on fire, they must be extinguished first.
Extinguish/repair times increased to 20sec per action.
2 repair kits and 2 fire extinguishers fill up an alice backpack.

ive set a vehicle on fire, and extinguished the fire APPARENTLY, but the vehicle was still considered on fire by gm. Ive also tried repairing it right after but this happened

Pushed a fix just now! Silly me had LocalEffectOnly marked as true, so this should also fix your issue with GM detecting the vehicle is still on fire. Please let me know if the current version is also working for you guys now too!

Works great now, even used them on striders MGS Stryker! Any chance the fire extinguisher could be just slightly quicker by a few seconds? I’ve noticed that unless someone immediately starts the extinguish process, they will be blown up with the vehicle for standing to close and not having enough time to complete said process.

hahah yes that was the intensity I wanted, but seems like maybe a little too much. I do plan on giving the fire system an overhaul to include the different stages of fire, I believe theres 4. Then I would make the lower stages be much quicker, or maybe multiple extinguishers needed for higher stage fires

next up is tire repair, and vehicle part repair including: engine, transmission, and fuel tank! next on todays list is to create a fuel can (because a damaged fuel tank empties quickly)

So I think I got everything working! (except I took out battery because it doesn't seem to be used yet). Put out flames (slightly shortened action length), then get access to repair engine/transmission/fueltank/tires if needed, when fueltank is repaired you can refuel the vehicle fully with the jerrycan. Once all essential parts are repaired you can repair the hull, but its optional. an Alice pack will fit: 1 jerrycan, 1 Toolkit, 2 extinguishers, 4 tire repair kits. All of those items get consumed except for the Toolkit.

I think I got everything working today! AS long as tomorrows playtest goes well I'll be pushing an update by the weekend! 😎 (still working in exp 0.9.9 too if the game decides to update on us)

A couple guidelines:```

  • 'Repair hull' will not show until all other essential parts have been repaired and it is totally optional
  • You can not repair any parts while the vehicle is smoking or on fire, you must extinguish first
  • You can not refuel a vehicle if the fuel tank is still broken or on fire

updated my dev version above to include a check for the item being in hand which can now be used in any quickbar slot. All items have decreased in weight/volume by 50%. At least one more day of testing before a push to public stable branch!

also decreased the cargo size of the jerrycan (2x1) to allow it to be used in the quickbar slots

Found a couple issues in testing and I've just pushed another update to dev fixing those issues. tire kits will now repair the most damaged tires first. also the correct item in hands will now be deleted for the consumable items.

pushed another dev fix adding player specific hints for completing the repairs (getting ready to add xp for support/refueling when the exp version hits stable! I see where to do it but the classnames change so I'm waiting for now!)

Huge update just pushed!

Newly added:

  • Tire repair kits.
  • Jerycans (for refueling).
  • Items must be equiped in hand via the quickbar to get the action to show on a vehicle.
  • Hint notifications for the player that completes the action.
    Tweaked:
  • Tire repairs, will now repair the most damaged tire first.
  • Tire repairs can be done as long as the vehicle is not in the burning state.
  • Final repair stage "Repair nonessentials" is optional, but will fix things like broken windows.
  • Item sizes decreased to be able to fit into the smaller ussr backpacks.
    Known issues:
  • Tanks are not repairable, this will need another standalone mod for those using tanks that has not been written yet. 🙂

LOVE THE UPDATE ! and the fact that teh items are consumable even more!!! I see repair kit isnt a consumable...is it meant to be this way?

yes, I wouldn't figure a set of tools would be disposable like that. Maybe after 10-20 uses in the future? IDK yet.

Seems to be working now with my initial conflict scenario testing! Turned out to have some RPCs not set up correctly! (Dev version linked just above)

Make sure the repair gives xp only to damage done frome enemies if possible. Otherwise people would abuse of this feature to Boost their ranks

yes im thinking of a way to handle that. Maybe counter the XP gained by adding negative XP for damaging friendly or empty vehicles. Kinda like when you shoot a friendly.

If it is for MILSIM purposes you could simply spawn a vehicle, shoot tires and empty the fuel from gm

I mean, anyone making a game mode that spawns vehicles dynamically might want them to spawned damaged and out of fuel.

Ok I think I'm starting to see the big picture now! I'm planning on adding a config file for this to allow some customizations for server owners. Maybe I can eventually add that feature! 🤔

Hey gramps I have a question about making an item (medical bag for example) become limited use before it deletes itself and was wondering if you/or anyone else could assist in where I would find out how to set a value to it; I was going to message privately but figured asking it in public may help someone else with a similar issue.

Yeah speaking of, since vehicle repair/refueling is in the game now, this mod has changed to just the fire extinguisher. Disabled the wrench's ability to extinguish fires and requires the extinguisher to do so.
