I have 230 hours in Arma, and for the past 20-ish I cannot play the game. I can use Eden Editor, and Virtual Arsenal, but if I try to test an Eden mission or play SP/MP, my game crashes. It does not give me an error besides OxCFFFFFFF. As far as I know this just means that there was a crash, but I havent been able to find any other details than that. I've updated my drivers, clean installed the game, repaired mods, changed my settings, and I cant think of anything else. Ive contacted BI support but they cant help me until Monday.

I got that error when I tried to host a local server using diag exe. Not sure if its because its diag, or is it because of that UI getting borked. I will try stable and see if I get the same popup error when the UI breaks

We rolled back last night, too much broken stuff for us to deal with. A lot changed and a lot of stuff is broken.

No AI related issues mostly but also some issues with placed buildings in missions and a host of other issues. I documented quite a few of them in general last night as we spotted them through gameplay

But then we are using mods and they do modify the way the map is done so that might have insulated us from map issues. When I was testing in vanilla the AI spotting distance the map worked for me, check the game hasn't messed up the key bind maybe?

When there are RCs the mods can prepare in advance and report bugs, but when there aren't RCs there isn't a lot the community can do to avoid disasters like this.

This happens every DLC release, I was mostly expecting issues which is why I started looking at it the moment I got it.
In order to hide their content they basically do a big merge on top of the stuff they do show us in the RC and the end result is usually not well tested by the community. A lot of stuff gets broken and there isn't any time for mods to adjust to the changes.
I don't want the game to be static and I can't see a way for bohemia to protect their DLC profits for something like this if its released for free on the development branch months ahead.

Been this way since Arma 2, I guess I have just come to accept its part of the parcel with Arma. If another company gave us something similar but with the polish we would move over in a heartbeat and I think much of the community would as well. At least in arma 2 it was the other way around with updates, you chose when you upgraded. Made things a little less urgent and you only upgraded when you wanted something that had been added, now we have to rollback and we can only do so for one release.

I guess its just different. For a game with so many mods and so many breaking changes Steam's way is suboptimal. For the grand majority of games there isn't really a problem.
I don't think anyone has yet worked out a really good way to do this sort of version control problem with multiple parties involved and still evolving a piece of software. We likely need really advanced backwards compatibility layers to do this well so that both parties are decoupled from each other. I understand the hate but I am not there, I just want the bugs fixed and I accept the issues as part of the issues that Arma uniquely has due to being the only game that is modded and updated like this. The fact they are the only company doing this is why we are still here years after release.
Would be enough if Steam any kind of version control and didn't just update everything automatically (while fucking up all the time too). But the average video game consumer is not smart enough to handle that I guess.
Being able to at least set an individual game to "don't update" would be a useful feature certainly. Then the admins of the communities could test it and tell everyone to manually run the update when all was well. But that doesn't solve the entire issue because if you have a new player join they need the ability to get the old code too.
Updates should not be opt out at all.
The updating / setting up process for A2 was the perfect idiot filter.
There was this moment in Arma 2 where everything was beta updates and we could include those in mod updater we were using at the time. Since the base assets of the game weren't changing it really was just choose the next beta and go. Put the entire versioning of every part into the communities hands, was a great time of stability!

CBA always causes problems but mostly server sided ones xD

ok so our crashes stopped occuring after disabling a script that managed weather changes, we also removed -noLogs starparameter, not sure if one of these changes actually made the difference or if its just luck but server are still running

i do understand what it does, i do understand that it sould have absoulutly not the slightest affect on these server crashes but i also know its arma so i cannot rule that option out for certain
its just empircal review of what we did and that was exactly these two changes
in older versions, running modded, not having -noLogs often caused crashes as arma wasn't able to handle the log spam from some misbehaving mods so it was worth a try, but you are right, the more likley cause was the weather script as weather is kind of a hacky thing in arma, just wanted to share all the fact 😃
You should always have logs on
If you ever need to diagnose a problem, you wont be able to do it withought a rpt
If there is log spam, it's not arma. It's either the mission or a mod problem

i 100% agree with you, logs are always good and you cannot have enough, the way we normaly handle it that we turn the logs off for performance reasons and when problems surface we turn them back on (problems almost always come back :D)

and for drive speed we normaly run everything on NVMW's or ram disks so thats probably wasnt the problem, most times its just crappy mods that werent ment to be used in "production" 😄
You must have a lot of mods loaded for something like logs to affect your performance, and they gotta be spamming like crazy

because by license or by obfuscation you cannot always edit a mod that spams the RPT
there are quite a few mods that do not allow modifications in ther license so there is no legal way of fixing it
Not necessarily true. As long as they arent redistributed that way, but what i was implying was that you may want to start by removing mods that you think aren't entirely important
there is, sadly but understandibly, a growing number of mods that are build with tools like mikeros and obfuscated to a degree where you cannot simply fix them

Im thinking of moving some of my bigger mods (RHS/CUP) to my second harddrive, while leaving the core game files on my SSD, using symbolic links. Would this be a significant (gamebreaking) issue, or would it just result in slower loading of mod assets?
you don't need symlinks for that. you can set the path direction for subscribed mods to your HDD and also point the launcher to it. and no, no performance issues. i have it like this for a very long time actually

Hi everyone. So suddenly my profile won’t load. It was working, exited and opened the game again, BAM gone. I get the greeting “welcome” to Arma (and I can’t load my missions I made or anything. The list is blank). In my Documents area, in other profiles, I see it’s still there. All my missions are too. The game just won’t recognize my profiles. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Ok so I verified my game files, and my profile still isn't showing up in game. Is someone near the game real quick that can do me a favor? I want to verify the correct path for Arma 3 - Other Profiles. I have the paths This PC\Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles an also have This PC\Documents\Arma 3 and This PC\Documents\Arma 3 Projects. Is this how it's supposed to be set up, with these 3 folders seperated and all in Documents?

Thanks. Something is really really wrong. I'm trying to make a new profile (which I'm hoping to copy and paste my old one over), but the game won't let me "name" it. I can't type in the box because its greyed out. It defaults to Player 1. After creating the new profile, the name deletes itself, so the box is empty. Then the game tells me I can't exit the page because I have to name the profile.

I tried deleting my original profile and found it was impossible. So I created a new one which is the one I use as default. Not sure why it does not allow you to delete the original profile after that but I just ignore it now. Can you not create a new profile once you launch the game and hover over the little character symbol and click on that?
Kind of. When I open the profile thing its completely blank. There is nothing on the left had list (though it does say RyansgamePC when I hover over the icon in the menu. This is normal as this is the name of my PC. Creative I know lol). Anyway, when I open the profile section in the menu, the left list is empty. I click on the option to make a new profile with the "new" button, but I can't name that one. It defaults to Player 1. Ok, fine. Maybe this is considered my default one. So I click on the option to make another new profile, but it also defaults to the same name Player 1, which I can't edit either (it's greyed out), then the game deletes both Player 1 profiles and deletes the names (assuming because it wont allow two profiles with the same name), but since the naming section is greyed out I can't name it myself, so I have to force the game closed due to the error saying you can't have a profile with no name at all. Lol. I realize this is confusing the way I'm typing it
What I don't get is, I have an Arma 3 - Other Profiles folder, with a folder inside that named Heroesandvillains. This is the profile I've always used which still has all my save files and missions I made and compositions, etc. It's just starting last night, the game won't recognize it anymore.
That's odd because that's the folder stucture I have as well and as far as I can tell the game is just not recognizing your profiles that you have already set up
Wow I feel like I need to nuke the whole game. I have I think 80 GB's of mods subscribed too, combining for a 100 GB download.
You could try deleting the profile folders but that is entirely up to you whether you want to take the chance of deleting those folders and attempting to start fresh. I have never tried that so I can't say for sure what will happen or if it will mess anything up at all. I would thinhk it would default to asking you to make a profile for the first time but I am only guessing here.
I have my main one backed up right now, Right now even after making a new one (Player 1) every time I start the game I get greeted like its my first time.

Yeah, I re-installed the game fresh and used a backup of my profiles as well so it should work as far as I can tell
FYI, incase anyone in here wants to avoid a catastrophy, here is what I did to "cause" this problem. Bludclot asked if I'd index his Cambodia map for ALiVE using his friends only pre-release Workshop version. I subscribed, forced borderless windows in the launcher, enabled filepatching, and turned off Windows Defender (it can interfere with Mikero's Dewrp program). Indexed the map and everything was fine. Closed Arma. Unsubscribed from the map on Steam, turned on Windows Defender, unchecked borderless windowed mode, disabled filepatching, launched the game, then this mess.
See you on the other side guys. Uninstalling now. Be back in a few days after it all downloads again 😃

Im getting kicked over and over from the server I'm playing on with the error "Battleeye not responding". I tried to verify all files, removing and reinstalling battleye, tried reinstalling arma 3 exe files. I get kicked out every 1-2 minutes. that is so wierd, because I can play on official, the server I was playing on (Lythium Exile) where I got kicked over and over, I was the only person experiencing this. Also the admin confirmed the error was clientside. So I have no clue what the issue is. Have to wait and gather logs I guess

Lythium map servers has had big issues with the battleye bug
it's not about the map, but BE not supporting non-default ports iirc

I got news @wise barn . I changed from my broadband connection, to my cellphone internet, and now it works on this server.
I had a feeling the old modded Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT firewall was doing something wierd with BE communication with the server ports

so I don't think you should be switching to something that may be costing you more than you intend to

admin told me BE is using port 2317 , for some reason my firewall in my linksys said "F. U" to use that port on this spesific server. A restart of the firewall, solved it.
Correction. It might be another issue (also?) , now me and several other people are beeing kicked from the same server. BE not responding error is back

it is basicly unplayable . The server I am playing Exile on is basicly dying after your update 😦 From 60 people to 10-30. When it hits 30 it breaks after the update. It is really frustrating for us multiplayer users or your product.

all the crashes occurred after the big last sp update, except the "battleye not respondig" bug, happened after the last hotfix

just make sure you provide crahdumps (mdmp, bidmp, rpt) optimally inside archive (e.g. 7zip or zip) from the problematic sessions on actual main branch build
i am on a hosted server and have been getting regular battleye crashes since the 1.78/1.80 patches. i beleive its due to the fact that my host has other services running through what should be my dedicated battleye port. i see this as an ongoing issue for those of us not on a dedicated machine and who can not set our own game port.

given its a hosted server its a bit hard to be sure, although the symptoms are the same as when battleye crashes. server is running, all players are kicked. players trying to rejoin get stuck on loading. no rcon tools will connect to the server. server remains that way until it is restarted.
following error messages in the rpt when this happens:

Hey guys. Back again. After reinstalling Arma, the game is still not recognizing my profile unfortunately. It was all working perfectly for a few hours and several times closing and launching the game, then after a few hours, the profiles list in game is empty. Your main profile is saved in "Arma 3" not "Arma 3 - Other Profiles"

Issue, a friend of mine is getting a greyed out load button in the Arsenal tab in a private hostes Antistrasi Altis
@dire wolf I have seen that before as well. I think that arsenal presets that were made in singleplayer aren't available in multiplayer, and vice versa. So the solution should be to start a local multiplayer game and create presets there. Don't use the editor to create arsenal presets if you want them available when playing online.

Can he still load it in arsenal? I've managed to lose Arsenal presets in the past simply because my profile got corrupted. They still showed, but I could never select them even with the same modset running

basically i get the occasional stutter, lag spike and then finally a crash after 15 minutes of play in arma 3 , probably because of memory leaks or something
and ofc had a bsod one time with quota underflow as the error message and that led me to the memory conclusion
