For me Arma is not a game you can ask "How to play" about.
It's like minecraft.. just you can't even tell people to punch trees.
It's like a sandbox (It's literally a sandbox..). You don't just sit down in it and ask others "Soooo.. How to use this stuff?"

it only has a sub-1km visual sensor (detect/track distance 800 meters, lock distance 600 meters & max target speed that it can detect/track/lock is 126 km/h) and airLock = 0; so probably not

I don't know koth, but basically in arma, just like in real life, you can't really get by yourself

if you get under fire, you get to cover, and the more in your team, the bigger chance that someone will spot the shooter before you're all dead

(and it's good to look for where shooter might be before you're under fire 😉 )

Arma 3 really benefits from surround sound implementations of Creative with SBX pro and the one that comes on the Sennheiser GSX 1000. Arma will output to 5.1 speakers so the 5.1->Headphone simulation does a good job of tracking where noises and shots are coming from.

The issue new players always have is they go into the server listing and they find altis life and KOTH. Those are the most played public server games. The vets of the game series probably play in communities with teams and teamwork, something you rarely see much of on a public server and IMO the way the game is best played, especially with some mods.

In the arma 2 days (pre DayZ mod) many of the servers were ACE/ACRE mod coop servers and you could organise groups of people in those to work together and find new community members. They don't seem to be very popular in Arma 3 for some reason. We used to run one at the beginning but the moment we could put the game together properly with mods we went private again, the public game is a very different experience and it grinds you down.

Still there used to be communities that did it and were based around it in a big way. There are still a few it just isn't the same quantity for some reason, the other game modes that are arguably further away from the games core intent have dominated

#

They used to run domination and another one the name of which escapes me, (warzoneperhaps) and their own custom missions (we ran custom ones).

Exactly it has never been easier to do it.

helicopters 100% viable and necessary in many situations, jets less used by players in my experience

arma terrains are just too small for proper jet usage tbh

yeah it's that @urban sluice . it's not rainbow six (the old ones) or SWAT 4 or anything, but there's tactical action. it's generally a slow paced game.

there's not really "official" game modes like that, everything's kinda spread out across the community - you will have to learn about mods and what not. but yes it's a fun game and well worth it on sale. enjoy.

@delicate storm Instead the Wipeout (these same instructions apply to the Neophron) pilot has to move the targeting camera (LCtrl+RMB) around to find targets; on the SENS info panel the horizontal direction you're pointing the camera is indicated by an orange cone with a thick red edge

Yeah, this year's DLCs remain EBO'd for the most part, so in this case I'm adding Jets DLC sensor stats (premium jets, UCAV, carrier static defenses) to the vehicles table

Correct! Although I believe that it's specifically Tanoa assets, a bunch of the Apex assets got the EBO->PBO treatment while ago

I know 😃 but yeah it's been a lot easier to look up stats once stuff becomes PBO thanks to BankRev which now even converts the config to .cpp automatically, then I can just Ctrl+F stuff in Notepad++

I'm not sure what the actual limit is nowadays, but huge playercounts tend to desync and become unplayable

ASR_AI is very much worth having, it doesn't solve the way AI shoot unless you set up subskills in the config file and you probably should do that. What it does change however is their behaviour in combat to be more realistic and prolong fights and that is worth it.

only we with medic left
in back of enemy

Besides Bootcamp, The East Wind, the Showcases (some are TEW missions w/ renamings of stuff), and Remnants of War, oh yeah there's a bunch of official SP content, to say nothing of user-made stuff like Resist. (Apex Protocol can technically be played solo but it's still using the co-op mechanics, just with only the one player and AI bots in place of other players.)

MCC can do that, fortified units trake up a window/door position and there is an algorithm in CBA for fortification (one which MCC is based). We modify it however to make units patrol inside of the buildings a bit and even swap buildings.
