#Legal question for the creators of Typst

Hello I have a legal question for the creators of Typst,
Firstly I want to say I love Typst, I'm proud to be a sponsor (albeit a small one) and plan to contribute once I learn Rust properly.
However I saw Typst is a company registred in Germany. I see no problems with that I have just some questions concerning the future of Typst.

My most important question is : Is typst gonna stay open source and a free software (under a licence like the Apache licence), it's an important one and in the past I dealt with company closing their code after some time.
And second is less important and if you don't know/haven't think about it it's fine is: What will you do which is "company" like (i mean like premium features on the webapp or closing the webapp entirely ?)

I was just asking myself these question and if possible I'd like someone to answer them, I know you're busy though so don't worry i can understand.

So, I can’t speak on behalf of <@&1054443996526690374> , but based on their previous answers to similar questions, here are the likely answers:

  1. Yes, permanently open source
  2. Not yet 100% decided on, but almost certainly not closing the web app entirely

(Take with a grain of salt as I’m not part of the team. Just compiling what I’ve seen before. 🙂 )

You can't change licenses retroactively, so if they decide to close the source code of Typst, a community fork would most certainly appear. They would alienate most of their userbase and destroy their business if they did that.

We‘ll monetize the web app (with a focus on B2B) but it is possible that we’ll introduce a Premium plan for individuals as well. Free tier will stay available
