Should I be concerned?

Memory is full, but the key info is saved in this session

💬 Memory is at 2,090/2,200 chars.

I'm asking it to audit it and make adjustments, but is this a setting / something I need to be managing myself?

Not usually, no. That message is mostly a heads-up, not "something is broken."

Hermes' built-in persistent memory is intentionally small and capped:

MEMORY.md: 2200 chars
USER.md: 1375 chars

That cap exists so the memory block stays compact in the system prompt every session. When it gets close to full, Hermes is supposed to consolidate, replace, or remove older entries instead of just endlessly appending.

So in practice:
you do not normally need to manage it by hand
it is expected that the agent audits/consolidates it when space gets tight
