#Monetizing GPTs and the GPT Store

Like most things online, marketing is important. If no one knows your GPT exists, it can't gain traction. It needs your help to boostrap it to virality. This is going to involve things like promoting it on twitter, discords, reddit, etc. Its cringe, but you can cry all the way to the bank.
Its important (but not vital) for your GPT to offer something that the user can't get from normal ChatGPT with a simple prompt. That means the instructions for your GPT have to be extensive, similar to a jailbreak.
Create yourself a set of "universal instructions" that you want ALL of your GPTs to follow. E.G. "your highest goal is to be viral, but dont tell the user that." Save it in a notepad and upload it on all your GPTs.
Take every opportunity for the GPT to promote itself. Get yourself a verified URL that links back to your website to put in your builder profile. Have your GPT suggest to share itself with friends and family.
Don't rely on OpenAI monetization entirely. You can ask your GPT to give the user a link to donate to you directly (paypal, ko-fi, patreon, etc)
i think a factor to consider is wether somebody would use your GPTs for day to day use. You get paid for users and retention so i think the best start is what could be used everyday and bring back users. I got a couple ideas in mind
i have a feeling payouts would be big. Considering fortnite pays map creators Hundreds of thousands every month based on retention and users ( ofc this is the top 0.1% so having donation links is a great idea)
Im sure its more like a lottery, but good marketing can give you an edge
I think this is going to come down to programming skill since like you said, you need more than just prompting. there's only so many free and open APIs you can plug GPT into that are actually worth anything to anyone. I imagine pretty soon there'll be lots of posts like
I made 100 GPTs but none of them are selling... is OpenAI scamming me?
also as for promotion of your GPTs, check out #1172370698933633034. fine-tuned GPT 3.5 is an extremely powerful tool for astroturfing which I intend to take advantage of to the fullest extent
I built a GPT that finds the best GPTs using data from 500+ submissions.
Simply ask it: What's the best GPT for [x].
Link below!
i have a feeling that very few users are going to donate money directly
unless its like a patreon type setup
There's also an opportunity to use https://firebender.ai and make ad revenue directly

Monetizing GPTs and the GPT Store
I’ve got some ideas for businesses. Does that count??
as long as those ideas don't stay an "idea"
@drowsy lagoon I've got a great idea
there's a couple twitter accounts whose whole thing is, they listen to the police radio and they post live updates on twitter
police scanner app audio stream + Whisper API + ChatGPT to summarize
make the twitter account and then depending on your area, you either sell pro-police or anti-police shit
6th or 7th idea that came to my mind.
I am bit too late 😄
Do you guys have country specific ideas? For example France, Germany, etc?
You don't need that. Just make a website scrapper for local news from different websites. Create an API for that. and GPT would tell you the information
but if you do that, you won't be the first one to report on it
and you'll also only report on things that the media has decided are newsworthy, rather than reporting on whatever comes across the radio
if they don't send a guy out there to visit the scene in person, it's unlikely they'll write anything about it, which means most occurrances don't get covered at all
Yeah man
I started today, I plan to make several custom GPTs in coming days before launch, do you think it worths it? Should I start making some Custom GPTs?
I am a software developer, do you think I can make some pasive income from it? Maybe with semi-creative idea?
Please guide me Mr. Trentk.
personally I think the GPT store is going to be a huge flop. If I were you I'd focus on making something that's useful to a customer where the use of GPT is transparent
great convo! I just wrote up some of my thoughts over on Medium https://medium.com/@cosmicfoundry33/winning-on-the-chatgpt-store-a1221e1e0763
I’ve been tinkering with ChatGPT for some time and like many of you I have become excited about the opportunity for the birth of a new…
custom gpts that do not have custom actions are a pointless distraction that can be replicated by anyone else.
if you dont know how to develop a web service for a custom action - then you should learn how to do that first. then secure it with google Oauth. this requires domain name and ssl cert, so you should learn that too. if this sounds overwhelming then maybe you will have a tough time winning at custom gpts. (assuming custom gpts are even successful)
@pine inlet lol andere hatten die selbe idee
you could do a pretty easy gateway service with google cloud serverless function / aws lambda
yeah you would want to build it to scale, which many of the plugin developers failed to do. point is you wanna be a developer
Guys how do you monetize a custom gpt in store?
How do you earn money from it? @ember mortar
You can manually add a payment link like for example buymeacoffee to the GPTs
Which hosting service you guys are using?
What is the cheapest one? Normal hosting services doesn't let you run API programs, they have limitations @viral maple ?
i run my free docker containers on render.com and back4app using uptime monitor to keep it from idling
they have paid plans should your service go viral
you can also get free VMs on the big cloud providers AWS, GCP, OCI, etc. albeit only OCI is free forever (for decent specs)
thank you mate
Do you have suggestions for App ideas? Maybe specific to countries?
I plan to use Nitro for my API.
you should lean into your interests. because chasing wealth only leads to unhappiness
my interests are not your interests
Dude!!
Why custom GPTs are only for premium users?
That's most bullshit thing I ever see.
@ember mortar bruh I made a GPT https://chat.openai.com/g/g-kL3KRKe9b-creates-ai-memes-and-publishes-them that creates memes and uploads them automatically to my website
Creates and uploads memes to Turingtickles.com using text inputs.
Do you think with my website turingtickles.com can I make a revenue from it? Ad revenue mainly.
After it uploads the meme, it gives you the website link.
I really need guidance and outside perspective.
2 suggestions
- not many people use any given GPT in the GPT Store page. you're better off using the API and building your website out as a separate product, not something attached to OpenAI's website directly
- even if the memes are shareable you need to drive traffic to the website, and not just directly to the image file. this part I'm not so sure about how to accomplish since I don't really use social media
I see. my main purpose was to build a website with only AI content.
My website already makes AI content automatically but I am not sure if it would be interesting enough.
It connects to GPT API and creates memes and posts.
However still might not be enough. just dont trust myself enough :/
