The more I use Gemini 2.5 Pro privately and GPT-4.1/o1-pro for work, I cannot see myself paying for any of the GPT models. 2.5 is just superior if we compare speed and output (disregard cost, we already did by including o1-pro).

Is o1-pro better for more complex design/architecture questions (engineering)? Yes. But is the speed from 2.5 and the output good enough so you only need one extra follow up question? Absolutely!

2.5 is in my opinion the best there is at this time. And if we were to look at cost as well, it even more cements the clear lead Google has right now. Who knows, it might change tomorrow, but all I can see is OpenAI scrambling, trying to get something out the door (with data that is over 8 months old still) and they still fall short, to the same or higher price compared to Gemini 2.5.

I haven't used o3/o4-mini enough to say much right now. o3 seems to be what o1/o1-pro should have been from the start (I'm thinking speed here). And there is nothing wrong with o1/o3 but if I consider 2.5 with 1-2 follow ups to clarify misunderstandings, the speed that I reach the end result is always faster with Gemini.

One thing is clear: the reason OpenAI is pushing "cheaper" models is purely because of Google and their great price model.

Cursor for coding might be the best Coding assistant, but they might still run out of money and left is Github Copilot (Microsoft) - they will just throw money at the problem.
